CBS worst recast of 2025 pits Y&R’s Cane Ashby against BTG’s Ted Richardson. Both are disasters but which one is worse?
NO ONE HAD THIS FIERCE COMPETITION FOR WORST RECAST ON THEIR BINGO CARD
TL;DR: There was not one soap opera fan who had such a fierce competition for the worst recast on CBS this year on their Bingo card, but apparently, daubers up… How is it possible that 50+ years of Young and the Restless is competing with barely one year of Beyond the Gates on anything? Well, anything can happen in the soap opera world on CBS. Seriously, Y&R’s Cane Ashby versus BTG’s Ted Richardson??… WHAT?!?!!
No One Asked for Cane Ashby Back, So Y&R Didn’t Even Try
No, Cane Ashby didn’t die on Young and the Restless; he went away after being portrayed by Daniel Goddard, and he should have stayed away. One reason that he went away… He cheated on his wife at the time, Lily Winters (Christel Khalil), and produced another child with that woman, who died. The child did not die and is literally God knows where. Since Cane Ashby has returned on screen on Young and the Restless, now being portrayed by Billy Flynn, there has not been one single mention of Cane’s bastard child, Sam. It’s odd, Cane wants to be father of the year to his children with Lily, but doesn’t even mention Sam.
Anyway… Again, no one asked for Cane Ashby to return. However, there has been demand for the return of both Tucker McCall and Tara Locke on Y&R. Now, CBS soap opera fans are left to deal with a new Cane Ashby, who has nothing in common with the original Cane Ashby, other than they are both men. Maybe if the powers that be even tried to recast Cane Ashby properly, with a side of an occasional mention of his illegitimate son, Sam, it would not all be that bad on Young and the Restless.

BTG’s Turtleneck Ted May As Well Be Dead, The New Ted Sucks
Turtleneck Ted was a hit from the start on Beyond the Gates when the series premiered in February 2024. He landed so well, being portrayed by Maurice Johnson. He and Dr. Nicole Dupree Richardson (Daphnee Duplaix) were the couple everyone in and out of Fairmont Crest wanted to be, besides Anita and Vernon Dupree (Tamara Tunie and Clifton Davis), of course.
The way Ted and Nicole carried themselves was a dream for so many. Turtleneck Ted and Nicole screamed love. Yes, towards the end of Turtleneck Ted’s tenure on Beyond the Gates, it was revealed what he did with that loony Leslie/Dana Thomas (Trisha Mann-Grant) all those years ago, producing his daughter Kat Richardson’s (Colby Muhammad) new nemesis/half sister, Eva Thomas (Ambyr Michelle). Yet, Beyond the Gates fans know Turtleneck Ted would have done everything in his power to rebuild his devoted family. All this new Ted without a turtleneck, portrayed by Keith D. Robinson, has is an occasional flower arrangement sent to the house he used to live in with his used to be beloved wife.
So Which Recast Is Worse?
CBS Soap Opera Fans… Which ridiculous recast this year between Young and the Restless and Beyond the Gates makes you want to rant more? We’re seriously dealing with Cane Ashby and Leslie’s Teddy Bear on Beyond the Gates. Maybe it’s a tie!!
