MATT CLARK EXPOSES HIMSELF AS THE VILLAIN EVERYONE WARNED ABOUT

TL;DR: Matt Clark sneaks off to visit convicted murderer Patty Williams, and she greets him like an old partner in crime. Meanwhile, Phyllis Summers makes a fool of herself defending him to Nick Newman, and Devon Winters clocks something blooming between Nate Hastings and Stephanie Simmons.

Phyllis Summers Defends a Man Who Doesn’t Deserve It

At rehab, Phyllis Summers tells Nick Newman she’s convinced Victor and Adam are behind Matt Clark‘s sudden disappearance, as if the actual con artist in this story needs her protection. Nick isn’t remotely sad about that possibility and warns her flatly that Matt is exactly the manipulator everyone else already sees. He reminds her that Matt has vanished and resurfaced under other names before, and every single one of those aliases turned out evil.

Phyllis snaps back that she’s only trying to be a good person, the same way she insists Matt is trying too, blissfully unaware of how delusional that comparison sounds out loud. Marie Kirkland briefly interrupts to thank Nick for talking her down, but the second she’s gone, Phyllis accuses him of helping his new friend the exact same way she’s helping hers. Nick’s parting shot lands like a curse: she’d better pray Matt is who she thinks he is, because a world of trouble is coming either way.

Matt Clark and Patty Williams Show Their True Colors

While Phyllis is out there humiliating herself on his behalf, Matt is busy proving her wrong in the worst possible way. He walks straight into a state prison to see Patty Williams, a woman with an actual body count, multiple stolen identities, and zero interest in redemption.

Patty doesn’t act surprised to see him at all, and that’s the real tell. “I knew you wouldn’t be able to stay away,” she purrs, and that one gleeful line unmasks Matt Clark as exactly the predator Nick keeps trying to warn everyone about. Whatever twisted history Patty Williams and Matt actually share, Phyllis has clearly been played from the start.

Devon Winters Notices Something Brewing

At the café, Devon Winters runs into Nate Hastings and Stephanie Simmons the day before Nate’s big surgery, and both men gush over how much of a miracle worker Stephanie has been. Devon can’t help clocking the vibe between them and points out she’s close with Nate’s mother, though he keeps his real read on the situation to himself. Stephanie offers to drive Nate to and from the hospital, and he confirms he’s fully committed to working alongside her at Memorial once he’s back.

Matt Clark is exactly the villain half of Genoa City already suspects, caught red-handed, and Patty Williams looks thrilled to have her old accomplice back. Between Phyllis’s humiliating loyalty and whatever quietly wonderful thing is developing between Nate and Stephanie, this stretch of Young and the Restless spoilers is proving nobody in this town is quite who they claim to be.
