Y&R PIPE DREAM: Devon Winters’ College Has No Students, No Building, and No Chance
Devon Winters wants to open a tuition-free college on Y&R, but Genoa City has no buildings left and barely any young people to enroll.

Devon Winters wants to walk away from Winters and pour his inheritance into a tuition-free liberal arts college named after his late father. It sounds inspiring on paper, but Genoa City does not have the real estate, the students, or honestly the track record to make this happen, and Devon dumping more responsibility on Nate for a fantasy project only makes it harder to root for.
A Beautiful Idea With Nowhere to Go
On Y&R, Devon Winters announced he is stepping away from Winters to found the Neil Winters College of Arts and Humanities, a school meant to be open to anyone regardless of ability to pay. It is a lovely tribute to his father, and Abby is fully behind it. There is one problem nobody in that scene bothered to mention. Where exactly is this college supposed to exist?
Genoa City has a long, well-documented habit of acquiring buildings and then doing absolutely nothing with them. The Grand Phoenix has sat vacant for years after Lily Winters bought it and never appointed anyone to run it, while half the town crowds into the Genoa City Athletic Club because there is nowhere else to go. If Devon thinks he is simply going to snap his fingers and produce a functioning campus, Genoa City’s own history says otherwise. Devon Winters is about to learn that grand gestures do not come with a working building attached.

Cane Already Bought the Real Estate
Here is the part that makes this even messier. While everyone was stuck at Cane Ashby‘s estate in the south of France, Holden Novak was quietly buying up real estate all over Genoa City on Cane’s behalf, including properties conveniently located near Jabot and Newman Enterprises. Cane effectively cornered the market on available buildings while the whole town was distracted.
That leaves Devon with two real options. He can go groveling to a man he cannot stand and try to buy back property Cane already snapped up, or he can settle for the Grand Phoenix, a hotel so neglected that even fans have publicly called out Lily for letting it rot. Neither option screams inspiring new chapter, and neither one is a great look for a man trying to honor his father’s legacy.
Where Are the Students, Devon?
Even if Devon somehow solves the building problem, there is a bigger issue nobody wants to say out loud. This is The Young and the Restless, and this show does not actually have young people. The cast skews heavily toward adults deep into their careers, marriages, and third acts, not incoming freshmen looking for financial aid. Who exactly is Devon planning to enroll?
A tuition-free college needs a student body, and Genoa City’s population is overwhelmingly business executives, doctors, and people circling each other’s exes. Unless Devon is planning to recruit off-screen entirely, this college has a demographic problem before it even has a building. Devon Winters cannot enroll students who simply do not exist on this canvas, and no amount of inheritance money fixes a casting shortage.

Devon Winters wants to build something meaningful, but Genoa City cannot even keep its existing hotel staffed, Cane already bought up the available real estate, and this show does not have the young cast to fill a single classroom.
