PHYLLIS SUMMERS IS BUYING DRINKS FOR THE MAN SIENNA BACALL THOUGHT SHE KILLED

TLDR: Thursday, May 7 on The Young and the Restless delivers the most deranged coincidence Genoa City has staged in years. Matt Clark walks into the GCAC with amnesia. Phyllis Summers gets called poison by Cane Ashby and orders a drink. The man Sienna Bacall swore she killed in the desert tells Phyllis she has “main character energy” and the woman currently out on bail starts spilling Genoa City secrets to a stranger who is the reason Sienna is sobbing into Noah Newman’s sweater across town.

The Bar Stool Heard Round Genoa City

Reader, settle in, because the writers have outdone themselves. Matt Clark walks into the GCAC like a man on holiday. He sits at the bar. He orders a beer. He asks the bartender if there are many regulars. The bartender, who has never laid eyes on him, pours the drink and goes about his evening. The man Sienna Bacall is currently sobbing about three blocks away is enjoying his second sip in peace.

Then Cane Ashby walks in and sits down. Matt asks if they have met. Cane says no, like a man who is one second away from being arrested again does not need new acquaintances, and walks off to a table with Holden Novak. The bartender starts wiping the same glass three times in a row because the GCAC is about to host the loudest scene of the week.

Enter Phyllis Summers. She walks through the door carrying the kind of energy a woman carries when she has been called names by every man in town and decided to drink through it. Cane jumps to his feet. He tells her he will never forgive her. He orders her out. She fires back that he needs paying customers. He calls her poison on his way out the door. The whole exchange happens with Matt at the bar, three feet away, taking notes in his head like a man who has just stumbled into the soap opera of his life.

Phyllis Summers Sat Down and Started Spilling Tea Like a Woman With Nothing to Lose

Phyllis settles in at the bar. She orders a drink. She complains to the bartender about Cane like she is starring in her own one-woman cabaret. Then she clocks the man at the end of the bar who has been staring at her since the Cane fight ended. Reader, this is the moment the universe broke.

Matt opens with the line of the year. He tells Phyllis Summers she has “main character energy.”

Reader, Phyllis Summers, who is currently out on bail, who is currently being abandoned by her son, who is currently being publicly disowned by her business partner, hears a charming stranger tell her she has main character energy and proceeds to spill the entire story of Genoa City like a confessional. She tells him she lives at the GCAC. She tells him about Cane reinventing himself and reverting to his “old wimpy self.” She is monologuing to a man whose face Sienna saw in her last nightmare, and the man is taking every word like the gospel.

The cherry on this venomous little sundae is Matt admitting he does not remember who he is. Phyllis, instead of running for the nearest exit and calling Sharon, decides this is a great time to make a friend. The man with no memory is now sitting next to the woman with no boundaries, and Genoa City has officially lost the plot. Sidney Sheldon could not have written this scene drunk on champagne. The writers wrote it sober.

Sienna Bacall Is Falling Apart Three Blocks Away

Across town at Sharon’s, Sienna Bacall sits wrapped in Noah Newman‘s sweater and tells him she is sure Matt is alive. She tells Noah she should have stayed to make sure he was dead. She admits she was always afraid of Matt and tried to dress the fear up as excitement. She tells Noah she thinks Matt is already in Genoa City.

Reader, Sienna is correct. Matt is at the GCAC. Phyllis is buying him a drink. The woman who killed her abuser with a rock is the one person in this city who would clock him on sight, and she is at home convincing herself she is being paranoid. Noah calls his father for an update. Nick arrives to confirm the search team found nothing. Sienna stares into the middle distance and tells Noah Matt is already there.

The truth is going to land harder than Sienna can dream. Matt is not just alive. Matt is making friends with the woman whose stepson is dating Sienna. The web is tighter than anyone in this storyline realizes, and the moment Phyllis Summers describes Genoa City to Matt in enough detail, the amnesiac is going to start putting pieces together that lead him straight to Sharon’s front door.

Cane Ashby Tells Lily Winters He Will Break Bail for Her

Out on the patio at Crimson Lights, Cane finds Lily Winters and tells her the judge denied his travel request. He cannot leave Genoa City. The donation can still happen here. Malcolm Winters is in New York waiting. Lily is panicking about variables. Cane looks her dead in the face and tells her if she needs him in New York, he will break bail to be with her.

Reader, the man is offering to detonate his entire legal future for a woman who has spent the last year telling him to stay away from her. Lily hears him. Lily does not say no. The chemistry that has been simmering since Nice is finally cooking, and the timing is so perfectly catastrophic that Christine Blair must be smelling smoke from her office.

Nick Newman Walks Into the GCAC and Sees His Ex With a Dead Man

Reader, this is the cliffhanger. Nick Newman walks into the GCAC and sees his ex-wife sitting at the bar with Matt Clark. Nick spent the morning watching the search team come up empty on Matt’s body. Nick knows what Matt looks like. Nick is going to recognize him in one second flat. Phyllis is the woman Nick lectured this morning about her “black hole of greed.” Phyllis is currently buying drinks for the man who almost killed her own stepson.

The scene ends on Nick’s face. The fallout is Friday’s problem. The bar tab is everyone’s.
