SHARON FACES MATT’S DARKNESS IN THIS Y&R CANADIAN DAY-AHEAD

TL;DR: This Y&R Canadian Day-Ahead sends Matt Clark to Sharon Newman’s cottage with a head full of darkness and a plea for help, gives Nick Newman a very different idea, and lets Phyllis Summers brag her way into a showdown with Adam Newman. Want the bigger picture? Our Y&R spoilers for the next two weeks have it all.

Sharon Newman Has a Stowaway in Her Trunk

This Y&R Canadian Day-Ahead opens with a security failure for the record books. Sharon Newman wants to know how Matt Clark got past Victor Newman’s security, and the answer is the trunk of her own car. Points for creativity, none for manners. He swears he only wants help, then doubles over clutching his head, which is certainly one way to explain yourself after hitching a ride in someone’s luggage compartment.

Sharon backs away and reminds him that leaving town was the deal. Matt insists this is not an act, and when she orders him out, he can’t seem to go. Instead, he begs her to make the pain stop and confesses that “the darkness” is back and eating him alive. She fetches him a glass of water anyway, because Sharon will always be a therapist first and a sensible woman second.

Matt tells her she is the only one he can trust, since she is a therapist who has shown him compassion. Then, in tears, he admits he doesn’t know who he is. He thought he could get Patty Williams to turn herself in, but Patty drove them off the road instead, and when he came to, his brain was sparking every old evil feeling it owned. It’s like a fire growing inside him, he says, and he isn’t trying to scare her, but he is scared himself.

Then Sharon glances at the fire poker, and Matt urges her to grab it and knock the violence out of his head again. Nothing says “I come in peace” like volunteering for blunt force with fireplace equipment.

Sharon asks if he saw a doctor after Sienna Bacall hit him, and he says he had an X-ray and was pronounced normal. Normal. Sure. She tells him a blow to the head could change a personality but never a conscience, and the conscience never lies. Matt calls himself a monster with some good in him. She says he needs help from an expert, and he says he needs her understanding, which is exactly what has always drawn him to her. When Sharon threatens to call security, Matt answers, “Maybe they’ll be here in time, maybe they won’t.”

Sharon holds her ground. She insists he has power over the forces in his brain and that his terrible choices can change. Matt says he hates himself and the things he’s done, but he can’t stop. She counters that the old Matt would have attacked her already, and he hasn’t, which means there is still hope. Of all the jobs Sharon has taken on in Genoa City, this one may need hazard pay.

Nick Newman Has No Time for a Group Session

A knock at the door brings Nick Newman, and Matt urges Sharon to let him in, which is a bold request from a man who was warned to stay out of Genoa City. Nick walks in, spots Matt, and demands to know what he is doing there. Sharon says Matt is looking for help and wants to change. Nick says Matt doesn’t change, and he is determined to end this now.

Matt, bless him, tells Nick to do what he has to, because it might be his only way out. Sharon and Nick argue over what happens next. He says she can’t talk him out of it, because Matt has had too many chances and this is the last straw. She insists they do this her way: Matt needs professional help, and she can get him to a clinic.

Then Matt screams that good Matt and bad Matt are throwing a party in his head, clutches his temple, and has to sit down. He wishes he were dead. Sharon promises to get him the help he needs, and Nick huffs like a man whose last straw has been returned to sender.

Phyllis Summers Insists Matt Is Ancient History

Over at Society, Phyllis Summers sits down with Nick and asks if he has been avoiding her. She tells him he looks good and reminds him she will support him if he needs it. Nick asks if she has heard from Matt. “Ancient history,” she says, with the confidence of a woman about to prove herself wrong.

Nick tells her Matt’s crashed car turned up outside of town, there is no sign of Matt, and the police suspect Patty was with him. He is convinced this was all a scheme cooked up by the two of them, and they debate whether the man deserves any slack at all. Nick can’t understand why Phyllis is working so hard to convince people Matt is a victim when Matt likely never changed. They argue over why Matt took Patty away in the first place, and Nick refuses to move into Phyllis’s fantasy land. She is, so far, the only resident.

Nick Newman Has a Plumbing Defense

Adam Newman arrives and leads his brother away from the table with news: the cops found the dealer. He was alive, and he told them Nick beat him badly. Now the detective wants Nick to come in for questioning.

Nick explains that he took the man’s drugs and flushed them down a toilet. Adam wants to believe him, and does. Nick says he wanted the drugs off the street, and it might not do much, but it’s something. The audience, who watched a certain pocketful of pills make its way back to Crimson Lights, is invited to sit with that explanation. Nick is grateful for how much Adam has stepped up for the family, and Adam promises he will always believe him. Adam, the family’s newly appointed designated believer, takes the toilet at face value.

They talk about Matt and what could have happened. Nick asks Adam to tell the detective he will cooperate, but he has to see Sharon first. Adam heads inside, and Nick heads for a cottage with a very awkward houseguest.

Adam Newman Asks Phyllis Summers Where the Money Came From

Back inside, Adam and Phyllis go at it, and he asks how she came up with the cash for all those shiny new properties. She is evasive. He decides he will simply wait until she is arrested and assures her his family doesn’t care about her or Arabesque. Phyllis brags that she has Lauren Fenmore and Daniel Romalotti on her side, and Adam sadly predicts her son will be out of a job again.

Phyllis warns she will be right across from them and will take them down. He reminds her she always fails and only has Arabesque because his father threw her a bone. She claims her company will do everything Newman does, only bigger and better. Adam calls this predictably vague, so she raises the stakes: Newman will be surpassed in everything within a year. He suggests she is spreading herself too thin, she says only losers say that, and they trade a few more digs before Adam thanks her for the pleasure.

Once he leaves, Phyllis calls Matt and leaves a message asking him to confirm he’s okay. Ancient history indeed.

Victor Newman Breaks Out the Pirate Voice

At the Newman Ranch, Adam drops by to fill Victor in on his brother’s response to the dealer being found. Nick claims he flushed the man’s drugs, and Adam is confident Nick didn’t use. But Nick has turned his attention back to Matt, and Victor thinks his son should only be concerned about his sobriety.

Adam also passes along Phyllis’s plan to eclipse Newman by next year, which earns a groan of “shiver me timbers” from Victor, a surprisingly nautical reaction from a man who built an empire on dry land. He grudgingly gives Phyllis credit for coming close one last time, then declares she can give it her best shot, and she will lose.
