Something is in the water in Genoa City, and it is not the Smarties Nick Newman has been swallowing by the fistful in Las Vegas. It is something else entirely. Something that turns otherwise functional men into pompous, self-important disasters who cannot read a single room they walk into. Whatever it is, Daniel Romalotti and Devon Winters have both been drinking it, and we have had enough.

Two men. Two completely different storylines. One shared talent for being absolutely insufferable at the worst possible time. We are not here to be balanced. We are here to say the women around them are right, these two are wrong, and Genoa City needs to write that down.

The Case Against Daniel Romalotti, Presented Without Apology

Let us start with The Town Hobo.

Daniel has been adrift ever since Heather’s death, and losing someone to Ian Ward is genuinely devastating. Nobody is disputing that. The grief is real. The problem is everything Daniel has done with it since. The wandering, the complete absence of forward motion, and the sleeping with a married lesbian.

Now layer on the Phyllis situation. His mother has Lauren Fenmore in her corner, and Lauren does not bet on sinking ships. Yes, Phyllis Summers creatively acquired Summers Conglomerate. Details, details. Men do this all the time in Genoa City. Too bad Daniel cannot remove his head from his consistently unemployed self long enough to consider giving his mother an inch when she has already moved miles.

Lauren standing her ground with Daniel this week is not a subplot. It is a verdict. Phyllis does not need Daniel’s approval to build something. We are siding with Phyllis Summers on this one and we will not be taking questions.

The Case Against Devon Winters, Also Presented Without Apology

Now. Devon Winters, formerly known as Devon Hamilton.

Devon filed paperwork on Mariah’s plea deal without telling Abby Newman. Right or wrong, Devon and Abby did not decide this together. Devon did this on his own, thinking only about himself, yet again, and yet again, it is getting old.

Here is where it gets genuinely rich. Cane Ashby stepped up and got tested as a potential bone marrow donor for Malcolm Winters. Neither Lily Winters nor Holden Novak matched. Cane showed up anyway. Devon, who cannot manage his own household without going rogue, has feelings about it. That promotion of the sperm donor mandate can stop anytime. Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh in a tailored suit is still Eeyore, and fans on social media are noticing.

Abby is extending an olive branch this week. It is not because Devon earned it. It is because Abby Newman is the bigger person in every room she walks into, and Devon has not yet caught up to what that costs her. We are siding with Abby on this one, too.

The Verdict, and We Are Not Softening It

Both of these men are being quietly handled by the women around them and losing badly. The women of The Young and the Restless are carrying the weight while Daniel and Devon figure out how to be in a room without making it worse. This is not our first day in Genoa City.

Society has two open seats. Gentlemen, sit down. Order something. Think very hard about your choices. The women are not waiting around anymore, and neither are we.
