Kidnapping has been trending on The Young and the Restless, and Abby Winters’ son Dominic became the latest victim. She survived every parent’s worst nightmare and got her son home safe, but she did it almost entirely without her powerful Newman and Abbott families.

Abby Winters is often out of the loop within Newman and Abbott affairs, but not on her part. These families keep her at arm’s distance, and nobody seems to want to talk about why. More importantly, why wasn’t either family there for her during this real-life nightmare?

Classic Victor Newman: Everything in His Power on His Timeframe

The Almighty Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) claims over and over again that he will do everything in his power to protect his family. Well, that has been proven yet again to be total bunk. His daughter, Abby Winters’s (Melissa Ordway) son, was kidnapped, and he did next to nothing. He didn’t deploy any resources. He didn’t offer the Newman jet for Abby and her husband, Devon Winters (Bryton James), to get closer to Dominic (Ethan Ray Clark) after a location was determined with the help of Detective James Burrow (Matt Cohen). Good thing Devon’s family has a jet, so they took that one. Devon was also devastated by Dominic’s kidnapping, yet out of the three family jets, he was the one who had to mobilize for his family. The Newman jet never left the ground. The Abbott family Jabot jet wasn’t offered up either.

The Abbott Family’s Familiar Neglect and Random List of Priorities

It’s sad to say, but it’s true. Smilin’ Jack Abbott’s (Peter Bergman) response to Abby’s real-life version of hell measured up exactly to that of The Mustache. Again, no Jabot jet. No security resources. Nobody offered to be by her side. Supposedly, her mother, Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson), offered to return to Genoa City, but Abby felt she wouldn’t be able to help and asked her to stay in Paris. Under normal circumstances, it seems like a mother’s job would be to hop on a plane ASAP to help her daughter in a time of great need, but Ashley is back in treatment in Paris. Yet another stress on Abby that no one pays attention to.

The Young and the Restless fans remember when Kyle Abbott’s (Michael Mealor) child, Harrison (Redding Munson), was kidnapped. The Mustache and Smilin’ Jack Abbott doubled down on doing everything in their power to locate him. The two of them actually bellied up at Society together, got along, and worked together for a common goal to get Harrison home safe. Y&R fans are left to guess why Dominic’s kidnapping was treated so much differently than Harrison’s.
