Shemar Moore and Vivica A. Fox are returning to The Young and the Restless in April 2026 for a storyline with shocking implications.

MALCOLM WINTERS AND DR. STEPHANIE SIMMONS ARE RETURNING TO GENOA CITY FOR A STORYLINE WITH “SHOCKING AND LASTING IMPLICATIONS”
TL;DR: Shemar Moore and Vivica A. Fox are returning to The Young and the Restless in April 2026. Their multi-episode arc as Malcolm Winters and Dr. Stephanie Simmons promises “shocking and lasting implications” for Genoa City, and we are not ready.
Two Icons Are Walking Back Into Genoa City
The Young and the Restless fans, clear your schedules for April because Shemar Moore and Vivica A. Fox are coming home.
Both actors resumed taping today, February 17, and will appear in a multi-episode arc airing in April 2026. Moore is reprising his Daytime Emmy-winning role as Malcolm Winters, the rebellious photographer who stole hearts and broke them in equal measure from 1994 through 2005. Fox is returning as Dr. Stephanie Simmons, the medical student who was briefly Malcolm’s love interest back in 1994 before disappearing from the canvas entirely. This marks Fox’s first appearance on the soap since 1995.
The show is keeping the storyline tightly under wraps, but a press release by soaps.com teased that Malcolm and Stephanie’s return will have “shocking and lasting implications” for the residents of Genoa City.

“Shocking and Lasting Implications” Could Mean Anything and That’s Terrifying
Here’s what we know. Malcolm Winters is Lily Winters’ biological father. That secret tore the Winters family apart for a decade after Malcolm’s encounter with Drucilla while she was under the influence of cold medication and believed he was Neil. The fallout from that night shaped every relationship in the Winters family for years.
Malcolm’s previous returns have been brief. Guest spots in 2014 for Neil’s blindness, in 2019 for Neil’s funeral, and in 2023 for a family gala. Each time, he flew in, hugged his family, and flew back out. But this time, the show isn’t calling it a guest appearance. They’re calling it a multi-episode arc. And they’re pairing him with a character who hasn’t been seen in over thirty years.
Why bring Stephanie Simmons back now? What connection does a medical student from 1994 have to the current chaos in Genoa City? And why does the show promise that whatever they’re walking into will have lasting implications? That word “lasting” is doing a lot of heavy lifting and we are sweating.
Two Stars Who Became Legends After Leaving Genoa City
Moore went on to become a primetime powerhouse with Criminal Minds and S.W.A.T., but Malcolm Winters is where it all started. His portrayal earned him the 2000 Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor, seven NAACP Image Awards, and a permanent place in soap opera history.
Fox parlayed her Y&R stint into blockbuster stardom, landing the role of Jasmine Dubrow in Independence Day while still on the show. She almost didn’t get the audition because of the stigma against daytime performers, but a producer’s wife who happened to be a Y&R fan put her name forward. The rest is Hollywood history.
Having both of them back on the same set, in the same storyline, thirty years later? That’s not a cameo. That’s an event.
April cannot come fast enough.

@soapoperamag I can't stop thinking about this… Mariah kidnapped Dominic. Yelled at him. Told him his parents didn't want him. Tried to take him out of the country. She completely lost it. So now I have to ask… should Tessa protect Aria and keep her away from Mariah? Because what if this happens again? #YR ♬ original sound – Soap Opera Magazine
