Y&R RERUN: Victor Newman Would Rather Nick Relapse Than Admit Jack Was Right

JACK ABBOTT HAS SURVIVED WORSE THAN VICTOR’S DISAPPROVAL

Victor Newman is relitigating an old grudge against Jack Abbott instead of admitting his stepson’s ex finally has the right person in Nick’s corner. The GCAC pill incident and Patty Williams both prove Victor’s the last person who should be questioning anyone’s trustworthiness.

Old Wounds, Older Grudges

This week on Y&R, Victor Newman has never let anyone forget a mistake, and this week proves it again. His objection to Jack Abbott serving as Nick‘s sponsor has nothing to do with qualifications. It goes back to the night at the Genoa City Athletic Club, when Jack took pills himself to shock Nikki Newman into stopping her drinking. It was desperate and unconventional, but it worked, and Victor still hasn’t forgiven him for it. As Y&R fans have pointed out before, this is Victor’s pattern on repeat.

A Debt Victor Won’t Repay

Here’s what Victor conveniently skips: Jack’s plan saved Nikki. It wasn’t clean, it wasn’t textbook, but it worked where Victor’s own approach never did. Jack has his own history with addiction, so that night wasn’t a stunt, it was someone who understood exactly what he was risking. Yet in Victor’s mind, the man who put himself on the line to save his wife is the one who can’t be trusted to help his son. Victor Newman has built a career out of deciding who deserves forgiveness and who doesn’t, and Jack’s landed on the wrong side of that ledger for years now, regardless of how the story actually played out.

Nick opening up to Victor this week might look like progress on the surface. It doesn’t erase the fact that Jack has lived experience Victor simply doesn’t have, and it doesn’t answer the real question hanging over this whole storyline: is Victor actually worried about Nick’s recovery, or is he worried about losing his grip on being the one who fixes things?

The Only Man Built for This

Then there’s the part Victor really doesn’t want anyone bringing up: Patty Williams. Victor is the one who brought her back to Genoa City, setting off the chain of events that ended with Patty stabbing Jack and nearly killing him. Jack didn’t survive that because Victor protected him; he survived it in spite of a mess Victor helped create. So when Victor Newman starts questioning who’s safe to trust around his family, fans have every right to ask why he isn’t looking in a mirror first.

Nikki Isn’t Picking Sides, Victor Is

Jack Abbott was Nick’s stepfather. He’s lived through his own struggles with addiction and come out the other side. He’s watched Nikki fight her own battle with alcohol up close, which means he understands recovery isn’t clean or linear; it’s messy, and sometimes it takes someone willing to break the rules to make it work. Nikki isn’t the one raising objections here either; she’s offering Nick words of wisdom instead of picking a side in Victor’s turf war.

That distinction matters. Nikki lived through the exact addiction Jack helped pull her out of, and she’s not treating Jack’s involvement as a threat. If the person who actually needed saving that night trusts Jack enough to stay quiet while Victor grandstands, that says something about whose judgment fans should actually be trusting here.
