THIS YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS RECAP CATCHES MATT CLARK BACKING OUT ON PHYLLIS SUMMERS RIGHT BEFORE SHE CATCHES HIM LYING

This Young and the Restless Recap finds Matt Clark losing his nerve on the Phyllis Summers plan and getting caught red-handed with Patty Williams’s sunglasses. Nick Newman shares a heartbreaking goodbye with Marie Kirkland while Victor Newman gets briefed on Nikki’s new job at Vibrante, and Jack Abbott collapses without warning at Society, leaving everyone in a panic.

Matt Clark’s Plan Falls Apart the Second He Loses His Nerve

At the Riverbank Motel, Matt Clark plays out his own hero moment in his head, and it goes nowhere good. He pictures giving Phyllis Summers the Heimlich during her staged choking scene and accidentally killing her instead, with Sharon Newman standing right there to tell him he never changes. Rattled by his own imagination, he decides he cannot live with himself if any of it goes wrong and texts Phyllis that the plan is off.

Over at the GCAC, Phyllis and Sharon are mid-lunch when Sharon notices her friend acting shifty and checking her phone every few seconds. Sharon guesses this has something to do with Matt, and Phyllis denies it a little too fast. The second Matt’s text lands, Phyllis announces a sudden emergency and bolts for the door.

She storms straight into Matt’s motel room demanding to know why he chickened out, and he stammers through excuses about everything that could have gone wrong. Phyllis Summers is not interested in his logic. They had an agreement, and she wants to know what changed his mind.

That is when she spots a pair of sunglasses that are definitely not hers lying around the room, catches a very specific perfume in the air, and demands to know exactly who else has been in there. Matt Clark has officially run out of excuses.

Nick Newman’s Recovery Takes an Emotional Detour

At rehab, Nick Newman tells Adam Newman he wants out by the end of the week, and Adam is quick to call that a terrible idea. Their conversation drifts back to Marie Kirkland, and Nick admits that helping her has quietly been helping him too.

Marie joins them long enough to thank Nick for the high-priced lawyer and for trying to take the blame for a man he barely knew, then asks to speak with him alone. She reveals she is leaving Genoa City for good to live near her parents, crediting Nick’s own words about getting sober for loved ones with pushing her toward real recovery. They share one last intense kiss and a promise to stay clean before she walks out.

Once she is gone, Nick tells his therapist how much sadder this feels than he expected and decides he is finally ready to get back to his life outside those walls.

Across town at Newman Ranch, Victor Newman learns from Victoria Newman and Nikki Newman that Nick was involved in the death of Marie’s husband, and Nikki worries the timing could undermine their son’s recovery. When they fill Victor in on Nikki running Vibrante, he claims total disinterest in any Young and the Restless rivalry with “jackass Abbott,” though nobody in the room looks convinced.

Patty Williams’s Doubts and Jack Abbott’s Sudden Collapse

At Jabot, Jack Abbott tells Diane Jenkins and Billy Abbott that Patty is still out there, and Kyle Abbott reports security checked his ID walking in the door. When Patty Williams calls, she insists she holds no grudge and plans to leave the country for good. Jack asks to see her one more time before she goes, and she admits they could have been magical together, then hangs up without promising anything. Diane refuses to believe a word of it, convinced Patty has already broken into their house.

In a nearby alley, Patty sits by the dumpsters second-guessing herself, wondering if Jack actually meant it or if he was only playing her, lately her one soft spot in an otherwise ice-cold plan.

Later at Society, Jack, Diane, Billy, and Kyle confirm they are moving ahead with their plan to lure Patty into the open. Mid-conversation, Jack suddenly grabs his stomach and doubles over, his eyes rolling back as everyone starts screaming for someone to call 911.
