GIO PALMIERI WALKED OUT ON HIS GRANDFATHER, AND THE PEOPLE HE LOVES ARE PAYING FOR IT

TL;DR: On Friday, October 16, Gio Palmieri has second thoughts about leaving Sonny’s house, while Emma seems to stick up for Sonny to a stunned Josslyn at the gym. Is Gio going back? Here’s what he, Emma and Josslyn each stand to lose.

Gio’s Second Thoughts Land on Friday

These General Hospital spoilers on Gio and Sonny start one week after a door slammed shut. On Friday, October 16, Gio Palmieri has second thoughts about moving out on his grandfather, Sonny Corinthos. At the gym the same day, Emma Scorpio-Drake and Josslyn Jacks clash, and Josslyn can’t believe her ears: “Are you really defending Sonny right now?”

Gio packed his bags on Friday, October 9. He told Sonny he wasn’t sure he could believe him, named Trina Robinson as the reason, and swore the move was his own decision. Sonny didn’t fight him. He called Gio “a terrific grandson,” said he loved him, and vowed to prove his innocence for Gio’s sake. On the way out, Gio took back his request for help finding a music manager with a cold “Forget I asked,” as our October 9 recap laid out.

Should Gio have stood by his grandfather, or was walking out the only honest move? Write to the editor at amber@soapoperamagazine.com and tell us.

Emma Told Sonny He Did It. Now She Sounds Like His Defender

Here’s the part that makes Friday so strange. When Emma came by while Gio packed on October 9, she made it clear to Sonny that she believed he was behind the Pentonville attack. On October 12 she told Trina that Gio “couldn’t stay and pretend Sonny was innocent.” So when Emma sounds like Sonny’s defender four days later, Josslyn has every reason to be stunned.

Reading between the lines, Emma isn’t switching teams. She’s protecting Gio, who she said was “spiraling” after the move, and Josslyn is the one pouring gasoline on Sonny’s troubles. Emma may also have a soft spot she came by honestly. Her mother, Robin Scorpio-Drake, lost her boyfriend Stone Cates to AIDS in the 1990s, and Sonny treated Stone like a little brother.

That puts a real friendship on the line. Emma and Josslyn are both in Trina’s corner, but Josslyn’s war on Sonny now runs straight through Gio’s family. Even Sonny won’t hit her directly. On Thursday he told Ric she’s “untouchable” because he helped raise her, while her own WSB boss warned her to back off. Emma may be the first friend to say it to her face.

Is Gio Going Back to Sonny on General Hospital?

Not yet. Spoilers for the week of October 19 have Gio Palmieri and Emma moving into their new apartment, thrilled about the step but knowing he hurt Sonny by turning his back on him, and wondering if he owed his grandfather more loyalty. That’s doubt, not a U-turn. Emma’s grandmother, Anna Devane, cosigned the lease and offered the deposit, so the place is real, even if it wasn’t Gio’s first pick.

Viewers are torn too. On one fan message board, a longtime watcher wrote, “I sure don’t want Gio siding with Trina and against his grandfather.” Another pointed out that Sonny “has been good to Gio even before they knew they were related.”

What Staying Away Costs Gio

Plenty. Sonny is the grandfather who backed Gio’s music and was ready to help him find a manager. He’s also the best-protected man in Port Charles, and that matters with Trina’s stalker closing in. On Friday Trina needs rescue, and spoilers say Trina and Emma set a trap for the stalker the following week, over Gio’s objections.

Here’s what nobody in Gio’s life knows. Ava Jerome and Drew Cain set up the Pentonville attack to frame Sonny, and we watched them talk it through on September 30. Trina blames Sonny for the beating that put her father, Curtis Ashford, in the ICU. Gio’s dad, Dante Falconeri, believes it too. Every day Gio Palmieri stays away, the frame does exactly what it was built to do.

My Prediction: Gio Comes Home When the Frame Cracks

If I know these writers, Gio Palmieri doesn’t move back because he misses the house. He moves back when someone proves Sonny was set up, and in that moment Emma looks like the only one who kept the door open. Don’t be surprised if the stalker forces it sooner, with Sonny protecting Trina or Emma when Gio can’t. We already asked whether Trina’s rescue could redeem Sonny with Gio, and the answer keeps getting more interesting. Follow every move on our two weeks of General Hospital spoilers.

Should Gio go home to Sonny now, or hold out until the truth comes out? Leave your pick in the comments right here on this page.

Gio’s Doubts Are Sonny’s First Win Since Pentonville

Our take: Gio’s second thoughts are the first crack in the frame from inside the family, and keeping a door open costs him nothing. The bill lands on Emma, who could lose a friend for saying out loud what Gio is only thinking.

Team Gio says he did right by Trina and should hold the line until the truth is out. Team Sonny says a grandson doesn’t walk out on the man who never stopped loving him. Pick a side on our Facebook page.
