Beyond the Gates Recap October 8, 2026: Deanna McBride Takes Advice From a Dead Man Who Should Know Better
This Beyond the Gates Recap catches Deanna McBride’s ghostly chat with Doug, Hayley’s lost partner, and Ted’s surprise trip for Shanice.
THIS BEYOND THE GATES RECAP HAS DEANNA CONSULTING A GHOST
TL;DR: This Beyond the Gates Recap catches Deanna McBride grilling her late father’s ghost while Vanessa McBride gets a Maui prescription from Nicole Dupree Richardson, Hayley Lawson losing her last ally in Randy Parker, Dani Dupree and Andre Richardson renegotiating their secrets, Ted Richardson plotting a surprise for Shanice Johnson, and Anita Dupree trading notes with Noah Rollins.

Deanna Gets a Ghostly Second Opinion
Deanna McBride arrived at Orphie’s Cafe with a carjacking story and a theory, and this Beyond the Gates Recap is delighted to report that both starred a mobster. She told Noah Rollins that Vanessa McBride had been rattled on the road, then confessed that she had finally admitted to her mother how much she feared losing her to Joey’s world. For once, Vanessa listened. Deanna’s fondest wish was that her mom might trade up for a gentleman who was not, in her phrasing, a scumbag.
Noah fretted that Joey would sniff out the heart to heart and wreck the fragile peace. He floated the notion that Doug McBride had buried himself in gambling to dodge a marriage he could not face, a theory Deanna dismissed as no excuse at all. Out of arguments, Noah left, and that was the cue for Doug’s ghost to drift back in with a warning to ignore that boy.
Deanna ignored the ghost for about as long as a teenager ignores a buzzing phone, then demanded to know whether he had lied to her mother. Doug confessed to shame, to the gambling, and to the small matter of handing Joey both his fortune and his marriage. Deanna concluded that he had shoved her mom away, informed him he was not real, and watched him fade, the most polite exit any hallucination has ever managed.

Vanessa Delivers Doug’s Real Obituary
Nicole Dupree Richardson, camped out at the club, phoned Anita Dupree for word on Hayley and got nothing but a shared hunch that negotiations were still underway. Vanessa strode up with news of her own openness with Deanna, and with the worry that Joey’s enemies might come for the people she loved. Vanessa confessed she had once tried to leave him and missed him dreadfully, which is the kind of loyalty that keeps insurance adjusters employed. Nicole prescribed seven days in Maui, and Vanessa sadly texted Joey Armstrong to meet.
Later Deanna found her mother and asked what her father had been like in his final days. Vanessa hated tarnishing his memory, but she laid out every unflattering detail: the lying, the gambling, the near bankruptcy. Deanna refused to put herself and Joey on opposite ends of a rope, and she would not make her mom choose, though she hoped Vanessa would notice she deserved more. Vanessa countered that people rarely show their true selves, insisted Doug had loved them, and predicted he would be sorry. They hugged, and the ghost, for once, kept quiet.

Hayley Loses Her Last Partner
At Uptown, Leslie Thomas swore she had been teasing about Hayley chasing her man, and Hayley Lawson ordered a car because her patience had left the building. Leslie proposed a girls’ trip, got shot down, and demanded better manners. She coached Hayley through some deep breathing exercises, then fetched two Black Magic cocktails from her old bartending repertoire while Hayley let Randy Parker’s call ring out.
Over drinks, Leslie asked how Hayley had persuaded Bill Hamilton to drop the charges and whether she held leverage over him. Hayley denied everything, Leslie threatened to quiz Marcel, and Hayley bolted, horrified, which answered the question beautifully.
Meanwhile in a hotel suite, Hayley stuffed a suitcase until Randy stormed in to accuse her of selling him out. She reminded him she had nearly been murdered and begged him to flee with her at once. Randy exploded that leaving sooner had been his advice, since he now faced a lifetime under Joey’s thumb. Hayley promised to make it right and offered a partnership, and Randy told her to delete his number. The man walked out of the only duo that ever believed in her.

Dani and Andre Revise the Secrets
Andre Richardson lit into Dani Dupree for sprinting to Bill, reminding her that he had a family of his own to lean on. Dani promised to be more careful, claimed it was empathy, and described their marriage as healthier. Andre wondered aloud whether she wanted him or her ex. He suspected Hayley held something over Bill, and Dani insisted that story was not hers to share. Andre did not care about the secret. He cared that Bill kept pulling her in.
Dani argued that Bill had adored Hayley and had dumped her for failing to match that fantasy, while Andre loved her for real. He asked why she kept running back, and she swore she did not want that. When she asked how to prove it, he answered with a kiss.
Afterward she brought up secrets, smiling knowingly, and he went still. She declined to ask what his was. She proposed a new deal: neither owed the other a full confession, provided nobody exploited the arrangement. She admitted she already had, apologized, and Andre accepted the terms, because nothing says healthy like a mutual agreement to look away.

Ted Packs Shanice’s Bags
Inside the hospital, Ted Richardson showed Ashley Morgan a mystery on his phone that made her glow. Shanice Johnson caught them mid-huddle, and the pair blamed gift shopping for Grayson Perez. Shanice pointed out that his birthday was months off, so Ashley fibbed that he was moving, a lie of truly Olympic laziness.
At Uptown, Ashley told Grayson she was covering Shanice’s shift because Ted had something big in the works. Leslie lingered, pried, and got nothing from Ashley, who pleaded with her to keep her mouth shut. Leslie shrugged, since her attention belonged to her own sweetheart, and she made eyes at Grayson.
In his office, Ted briefed Nicole on Hayley, then announced he was whisking Shanice off on a trip. Nicole blurted that he could not, because Hayley was still loose, but Ted assured her that Vernon had handled it and that home was only a short drive away. Nicole fumed and agreed to keep the secret. By evening Ted and Ashley told Shanice about the holiday, and he had even packed her bags.
Noah Gets Notes From Anita
Noah visited Anita’s house to play the tune they had mentioned, and Anita welcomed the distraction. He played a few bars, she applauded, and he beamed at receiving feedback from the legendary Anita Williams. She offered one more tweak, a modulation for emotional lift, and they agreed it sounded better. As he left, Nicole arrived, and the three agreed that the threat from Hayley was contained, which in this town means a fresh disaster is probably already on its way.
