While Ted & Nicole Richardson are wonderful doctors, humans, & spouses, their kids are arrogant & entitled beyond so far beyond the gates it’s repulsive. ‘Team Smitty’ & ‘Team Eva’ already have a bandwagon full of fans, & let’s unpack their bags…
BTG Fans Forget Martin is Ted & Nicole Richardson’s Son
Before Beyond the Gates started in February 2025, soap opera fans across the land were abusing their fast-forward buttons as storylines on other soap operas continued to be recycled & sets continued to be minimized. Well, hold the phone. Soap opera fans have now met their rewind button & they don’t mind it. What just happened on BTG? One must rewind…
One top rewind is to piece together what the hell is going on & went on with Martin Richardson (Brandon Claybon). Martin’s bond with his granddad, Vernon Dupree (Clifton Davis), was boldly brought out from the get-go, but not who his parents are.
Martin Richardson’s parents are the most wonderful Ted & Nicole Richardson (Maurice Johnson & Daphne Duplaix) of Fairmont Crest. However, without rewinding at least three times & or mixing in a Google search or two, soap opera fans would not know. Most often, Beyond the Gates fans can find Martin either bonding with his granddad, Vernon, or sparring with his husband, Smitty Smith (Mike Manning). Almost nothing about Martin is like anything like his parents.
‘Team Eva’ by Eva, Ted, & Nicole & Without Leslie
Eva Thomas (Ambyr Michelle) is doing a damn good job of watching out for herself. Yes, she’s an adult, but she has a misleading lunatic of a supposed mother who claims to prioritize Eva as her #1 & unbeknownst to Eva, is causing her emotional distress that will haunt her for years. Eva’s momma Looney Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant) changes personalities & wigs like most Fairmont Crest residents change underwear. Although Eva had it in her to question Leslie about whether she ran down Dr. Nicole’s full-time assistant, Laura Peterson (Destiny Love), she got the wrong answer & doesn’t know it. Yet, if Looney Leslie didn’t run down Laura to put her in the hospital & out of Dr. Nicole’s orbit, there is no way Ted & Nicole would be as close with her as they are.
Kat Richardson Has Met Her Match & Can’t Deal
Speaking of Ted & Nicole, like their son Martin, their daughter Kat Richardson (Colby Muhammad) is a bit of an entitled snot herself. Kat may have had a point when Eva first came on working for Kat’s mother, Dr. Nicole, but that was driven by Looney Leslie & continues to wear off. While Eva doesn’t know that her momma did run down Laura & has more personalities & wigs than she knows about, she isn’t dumb.
‘Team Smitty’ & ‘Team Eva’ Outsmart the Richardson Kids
Beyond the Gates fans almost have to root for Smitty & Eva. While almost all of what makes every day not so great for Smitty is his husband Martin, Eva has contributions from both Kat & her momma to make each of her days as crappy as possible.
It’s hard to teach an old dog new tricks, & adult children, but Mr. Martin & Miss. Kat need something.
Except for whatever Ted Richardson had going on or not with Leslie back in the day, he has been wonderful for the last bunch of years with this wife, Dr. Nicole. Dr. Nicole is obviously wife, sister, daughter, & everything else of the year every single year.
Have Martin & Kat already pushed their parents into taking their adversaries’ sides because of their entitled arrogance & lack of empathy for others on Beyond the Gates? Who will end up on what side of the gates?
