Chad DiMera’s Dramatic Salem Exit Is Fooling Nobody on DAYS! Except He’ll Come Back An Entirely New Man!

CHAD DIMERA MAKES PLANS TO LEAVE SALEM ON DAYS OF OUR LIVES AFTER TONY DIMERA SUGGESTS HE TAKE SOME TIME AWAY

TL;DR: Chad DiMera makes plans to leave Salem on Thursday’s Days of Our Lives after Tony DiMera suggests he take some time away. The man buried his father, lost his wife twice, and fought for custody of his kids. But Connor Floyd debuts as the new Chad in April, so this goodbye has an expiration date.

Chad DiMera Has Finally Hit His Breaking Point

Thursday’s Days of Our Lives spoilers reveal Chad DiMera makes plans to leave Salem, and honestly, the only surprising thing is that it took this long. The man has been running on fumes and grief for the better part of two years, and now he has apparently decided that enough is enough.

On Tuesday, the DiMera family gathers to say their final goodbye to Stefano DiMera (Joseph Mascolo) after those mysterious crypt bones were confirmed as the patriarch’s remains. Tony DiMera (Thaao Penghlis) reportedly makes a suggestion to Chad during the memorial, and by Thursday, Chad DiMera is packing his emotional bags. Tony probably told him something like “go be with your children” and Chad heard it as permission to flee the town that has done nothing but destroy him.

And can you blame him? Let us run through Chad’s Salem highlight reel of misery. His wife Abigail was murdered. Then a woman named Cat Greene (AnnaLynne McCord) showed up PRETENDING to be Abigail, and Chad fell for it because hope is a powerful drug. Then Jennifer Horton (Melissa Reeves) filed for custody of Thomas and Charlotte because she did not approve of Chad getting close to Cat. Then the entire DiMera family got kidnapped and shoved into a crypt. And NOW his father’s bones have been identified, which means Stefano is truly, permanently gone. We think.

At some point, Salem just becomes a place where bad things happen to you on a recurring basis, and Chad has apparently reached that realization.

The Revolving Door of DiMera Actors Strikes Again

Here is the thing about Chad DiMera leaving Salem that everyone already knows but nobody is supposed to acknowledge. Connor Floyd, fresh off playing Chance Chancellor on The Young and the Restless, is gearing up to debut as the new Chad on April 21, 2026.

So “leaving Salem” does not mean leaving Salem. It means leaving for roughly two months and coming back with a completely different face, which is basically a DiMera family tradition.

Billy Flynn played Chad for over a decade after taking over from Casey Deidrick, who originated the role back in 2009. Flynn left to play Cane Ashby on The Young and the Restless, and in the ultimate soap opera swap, the guy who played Chance on Y&R is now crossing over to play Flynn’s old role. The two actors literally shared scenes together on The Young and the Restless before the switch happened. You cannot make this stuff up.

Flynn himself said Connor is going to crush it in the role, and even joked that “Chad just got a lot more beautiful.”

What Happens to Thomas, Charlotte, and Cat?

The bigger question is what Chad’s exit means for the people he is leaving behind. Chad DiMera settled custody arrangements with Jack Deveraux (Matthew Ashford) and Jennifer a few weeks ago, reaching a deal that Abigail would reportedly be proud of. Jennifer even told Chad she would be there to help when he needs it, which was her version of a peace offering after months of threatening to take his children away.

If Tony’s suggestion involves Chad going to Boston to stay close to Thomas and Charlotte, that tracks with where Jack and Jennifer are based. It would give Chad proximity to his kids without the constant drama of Salem trying to kill him every other Tuesday.

As for Cat, she and Chad have been growing closer despite the awkward foundation of her pretending to be his dead wife. With EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel) now circling Cat with dinner invitations, Chad’s departure might push her directly into EJ’s orbit. Nothing says “rebound” like a DiMera brother swap.

Two Months Is Nothing in Salem Time

Chad DiMera will be back. Connor Floyd’s Chad will presumably return with fresh motivation, a new perspective, and possibly a brand new grudge against whoever moved in on his love interest while he was gone. The show needs a Chad. The DiMera family needs a Chad. And two months is barely enough time for the dust from Stefano’s memorial to settle.

So enjoy Thursday’s emotional farewell, but do not get too attached to the goodbye. Salem’s revolving door spins fast, and the DiMeras always come home.
