How EJ Built This Trap for Himself

EJ DiMera is a man who controls outcomes. He pressured Theo into giving up the CEO chair by convincing him that Lexie would disapprove of him holding the position. He maneuvered Johnny DiMera into the seat instead, betting that a son with a pregnant wife and a cancer diagnosis hanging over his family would be too distracted to look closely at what his father was doing in the margins. He then offered Theo a COO role when that plan started buckling under its own weight. He did all of this because he needed the optics of the next generation leading DiMera while he ran the actual machinery from behind them.

And then Lexie told Theo she wanted him in that chair. And Theo looked at EJ on June 17 and said checkmate.

That is not a metaphor Theo Carver chose carelessly. He looked him in the eye, reminded EJ that he was no longer in charge of Stefano’s last wishes, and told him there was nothing EJ could do about it. For a man who has spent his entire Salem life ensuring there is always something he can do about everything, that moment landed like a grenade.

Two Idealists With Boardroom Access

Here is what EJ DiMera is actually dealing with now. Johnny DiMera and Theo Carver have both said the same thing independently: they want DiMera Enterprises to be something their children can be proud of. They want nothing to do with the side of this company that Stefano built and maintained by his son. They are not interested in selling Versavix on the black market, in using the company as a vehicle for whatever scheme EJ is currently running, or in being the next generation of DiMera that Salem has learned to fear.

They are idealists. With boardroom access. And full co-CEO authority.

EJ DiMera has survived Stefano’s manipulation, multiple assassination attempts, a Titan hostile takeover, and Tony’s double-crossing schemes. What he has never faced is two people inside his own company who are both clean enough and powerful enough to actually stop him. Theo already forced EJ to hand millions to Gabi DiMera. He did it cleanly, without leverage, purely because it was the right thing to do. And EJ watched it happen with an expression that should make everyone at DiMera Enterprises nervous.

The Problem With Checkmate

Theo Carver is correct that he has never been in a stronger position. He is co-CEO. Lexie is behind him. Johnny is beside him. EJ is boxed in on every side by people who either do not fear him or have decided that his approval is no longer something they need.

But here is the thing about EJ DiMera that Salem learns and relearns every few years. He is never actually out of moves. He told Theo he was doing a wonderful job and smiled like a man who has already started planning. He has Versavix. He has Rolf. He has Cat Greene asking questions he has not fully answered. He has a sister he has already threatened. And now he has two co-CEOs inside his own company who think they have won.

Theo Carver called it checkmate. He does not lose chess games. He flips the board. Salem should brace itself for what that looks like when the target is his own son and the nephew of the woman he brought back from the dead to control both of them.
