Let us talk about the deal Gabi Hernandez offered Liam Selejko, because it might be the most lopsided negotiation in recent Salem memory. Gabi sat across from the young man circling her daughter and offered him one hundred thousand dollars to leave town and never contact Arianna Horton again.

Liam did not gasp. He did not clutch his chest. He did not deliver a speech about how no amount of money could buy his love. He thought about it, raised exactly one condition, and shook her hand.

His condition was not even romantic. He said he could not leave town because he has a literacy tutor here, Julie Williams, and he cannot bear to start over with someone new again. Here is the part that should make Gabi laugh and then cry. Julie Williams is the woman who took over Liam’s mentoring after Abe Carver dropped him, and she also happens to be Ari’s own great-aunt. Liam cited Ari’s great-aunt as a reason he needs to stay in the very town Gabi is paying him to leave. He also said his parents are in Salem now, which is news to anyone who remembers the version of his backstory where they were behind bars. Is Philip really his father? We shall see. But he did say if Gabi could smooth things over on the back end so his plea deal stayed intact, he would take the money, leave Ari alone, and never look back.

That is not a man fighting for love. That is a man reviewing a contract.

Let Us Review What Liam Was Actually Giving Up

Here is the part that makes this the easiest money in Salem history. The relationship Gabi paid six figures to end barely exists.

Liam Selejko and Ari have kissed exactly twice. One of those kisses was fake, a quick cover Ari pulled when Gabi and Philip walked in and she did not want her mother to spot her. The other was real, sure. But two kisses and a handful of conversations do not make a great love story. They make an acquaintance with potential.

These two do not know each other well. We have not watched them build anything. We have watched Ari chase a moody rule-breaker with a criminal record while every adult in her life begged her to slow down. We have watched her great-aunt Julie question the age gap between them. We have watched Liam himself spend most of this arc telling Ari she should stay away from him for her own good.

So when Gabi showed up with a checkbook, Liam was not being asked to give up the love of his life. He was being asked to give up a girl he had kissed twice in exchange for enough money to change his entire situation. Of course he shook on it. Anyone would have.

The One Thing Gabi Did Not Account For

Here is where Gabi’s tidy little plan falls apart. She negotiated with the wrong person.

Liam was always going to be reasonable about this. He has a young son. He has a literacy program he is finally taking seriously. He has a plea deal he cannot afford to blow. A clean exit with one hundred thousand dollars in his pocket is the best thing that has happened to this man since he arrived in town face down in the dirt trying to mug Cat Greene.

Ari is the variable. And Ari is more obsessed with Liam than ever. Today, Holly Jonas looked her friend dead in the eye and called her out for making bad choices, and she named Liam specifically. Ari did not take it well. Ari does not take anything about Liam well right now. The more anyone tells this girl to let go, the tighter she grips, and Gabi of all people should recognize the pattern because Ari learned her stubborn streak somewhere.

So the deal is done. The men shook hands. The money is as good as spent. But nobody asked Ari, and Ari is the only person in this entire equation who has shown she is willing to burn things down to keep Liam Selejko close.

Gabi bought Liam’s cooperation. She did not buy her daughter’s. And that distinction is going to cost her everything.
