TL;DR: The mystery bones found in the DiMera crypt have been positively identified as Stefano DiMera’s remains, forcing EJ to confront the finality of his father’s death. As EJ reaches for the Phoenix ring and vows the dynasty will endure, Chad’s decision to keep Theo in the dark sets up an explosive betrayal. Get ready, Days of Our Lives fans, because the DiMera family is about to implode.

The Phoenix Has Fallen

After decades of “is he or isn’t he dead” speculation, the confirmation Days of Our Lives fans never thought they’d see is finally here. Rafe Hernandez delivers the devastating lab results directly to EJ DiMera this week: the bones discovered in the DiMera crypt belong to his father, Stefano DiMera.

Let that sink in for a moment.

The man who cheated death more times than anyone can count, the legendary Phoenix who rose from the ashes over and over again, is officially gone. And something tells me Salem will never quite be the same.

The forensic timeline matches up perfectly. Back on January 1st, Rafe and Cat Greene discussed the initial findings, noting the remains belonged to a male who had been deceased between one and ten years. Cat even floated the possibility that the bones could be Stefano’s after Peter Blake admitted to moving the patriarch’s sarcophagus while using the crypt as his personal hostage hideout.

Now? The DNA doesn’t lie. The Phoenix mythology has officially met its scientific end.

EJ’s Power Play Begins

Here’s where things get really interesting. EJ DiMera isn’t just mourning his father. He’s positioning himself as the new head of the family, and the timing feels less like coincidence and more like calculated ambition.

The winter promo already showed us what’s coming. EJ declaring “the house of DiMera will not fall” while someone slips Stefano’s iconic onyx Phoenix ring onto their finger. Reading between the lines? That someone is absolutely EJ, and this isn’t just grief talking. This is a coronation.

But not everyone in the family is buying what EJ’s selling. According to spoilers for the week of January 26th through 30th, Kristen DiMera is “not receptive” to EJ’s sympathy. She’s clearly seeing through the performance, and honestly? Good for her. When your brother starts reaching for daddy’s power ring before the funeral even happens, skepticism seems pretty justified.

The tension between these siblings has been simmering for years, but this confirmation might be the match that finally lights the fuse. EJ wants to be the patriarch. Kristen isn’t interested in his comfort tour. And somewhere in the middle, the rest of the DiMera heirs are watching, waiting, and probably plotting.

Chad’s Devastating Secret

If EJ’s power grab isn’t messy enough, there’s another bomb ticking away in the DiMera mansion. Chad DiMera has made the decision to withhold the news of Stefano’s confirmed death from a recovering Theo Carver.

On the surface, it sounds protective. Theo just woke up from a coma on January 6th. He’s been through the trauma of the crypt kidnapping. Why pile on more devastating news while he’s still healing?

But here’s the problem with “protective” lies in Salem. They always, ALWAYS come out. And when Theo discovers that Chad knew his grandfather’s remains had been identified and chose to keep him in the dark? That gut punch is going to feel like a betrayal.

Theo isn’t a child anymore. The recast with Tyler Joseph Andrews brought us a more mature version of this character, one who has openly admitted to leaning into his DiMera heritage. He’s been finding a mentor in Tony DiMera and expressing aggressive interest in reclaiming his CEO position. This is not someone who wants to be coddled.

Chad’s protective instincts might destroy the very relationship he’s trying to preserve. And if Theo learns the truth from someone else, like the increasingly ambitious EJ or the returning Vivian Alamain, the fallout could fracture this family from the inside out.

The Resurrection Shadow

Just because Stefano’s bones have been positively identified doesn’t mean the Phoenix mythology is completely dead. In the same preview week, Gwen Rizczech confronts Dr. Wilhelm Rolf about a secret project involving raising someone from the dead.

“Brats,” Gwen specifically asks about. Plural.

The leading theory among fans? Stefan and Jake DiMera are the subjects of Rolf’s latest resurrection experiment, not Stefano himself. The suspicious death certificate signed by Vivian Alamain for Stefan, combined with the medical anomaly of Stefan having Jake’s heart, creates the perfect storm for Rolf’s signature mad science.

So while one mystery closes with the forensic confirmation, another one opens. EJ DiMera might be reaching for that Phoenix ring, but if his brothers are secretly being resurrected in some hidden laboratory, his claim to the DiMera throne could be invalidated before he even sits down.

The house of DiMera will not fall? We’ll see about that.
