STEVE JOHNSON BLAMED THE WRONG MAN AND EVERYONE KNOWS IT

TL;DR: Steve Johnson is finally apologizing to Jeremy Horton on Days of Our Lives after months of treating him like Salem’s most wanted while Owen Kent was the one actually stalking, kidnapping, and terrorizing Stephanie Johnson. The investigation was sloppy, the assumptions were lazy, and the man Steve spent all that time hunting down turned out to be the one who risked his life to save his daughter.

The Investigation That Got Everything Wrong

Steve Johnson  – the man with the patch – is a legend in Salem. He has run covert operations. He has taken down some of the most dangerous people to ever walk through that town. And for the better part of four months, he aimed every ounce of that experience at the wrong man and refused to look anywhere else. From the moment Jeremy Horton came back to Salem, Steve decided he was guilty. Not suspected. Decided. Jeremy had an abusive past with Stephanie Johnson. He was left handed. He was in town when the stalking started. And that was apparently enough for Steve and the entire Salem PD to build their entire case around one man while the real threat operated freely.

Jada Hunter ran a sting operation using Stephanie as bait during a wedding shopping trip. She arrested Jeremy based on circumstantial evidence so thin it couldn’t have survived a first year law school exam. A drugged police officer was asked leading questions about whether his attacker could have been Jeremy, and when the cop said yes, that was treated like a positive identification. The stalker’s signal was traced to the Horton house where Jeremy was living, but nobody considered that someone could have planted the equipment. Every piece of evidence was wrong.

Jeremy Did What Steve Could Not

Here is the part that makes the apology sting the most. While Steve was chasing Jeremy, Jeremy was chasing Owen. He spotted Owen Kent in Horton Town Square, recognized him from an earlier encounter at the school, followed him through a maze of corridors beneath the Tom Horton Free Clinic, and found Stephanie tied to a chair in a secret lab. Jeremy didn’t call the police. Or wait for backup. He walked into a kidnapper’s lair alone because every second mattered and the police were too busy looking for him to look for her.

And then Owen caught him. He got kidnapped trying to save the woman everyone told him to stay away from. The man Steve Johnson was convinced was the villain turned out to be the hero and he paid for it with his own freedom. When Stephanie apologized to Jeremy, it was not just guilt. It was the moment she realized the person who showed up for her when it mattered most was not her husband, not her father, and not the Salem PD. It was the man they all told her to fear.

What the Apology Actually Means for What Comes Next

Steve Johnson apologizing to Jeremy Horton is not just a man admitting he was wrong. It is the last wall between Stephanie and Jeremy coming down. Steve’s suspicion was the biggest obstacle keeping Stephanie from trusting Jeremy openly. Alex Kiriakis was jealous. Kayla was worried. But Steve was the one whose opinion carries the most weight. Now Steve is saying he was wrong. That changes everything.

Stephanie already told Chanel she cannot stand it when Alex touches her. She is gravitating toward Jeremy because he is the person who makes her feel safe. And now her father, the man whose judgment she trusts above everyone else’s, is validating him.

And Then Stephanie Confronts Owen Alone

Meanwhile, the same day Steve apologizes, Stephanie Johnson is going to be face to face with Owen Kent. Alone. With Owen in handcuffs. A rarity. But we digress. She is going to make sure nobody is watching as she gives him a piece of her mind. And that should terrify everyone because Ed Gein is probably Owen Kent’s hero. Owen escaped custody in 2009. He is reportedly getting a deal that sends him to a mental institution. And every soap fan knows what a mental institution deal means on Days of Our Lives. It means he is coming back. The only question is whether Stephanie will be ready when he does.

Is Steve’s apology going to push Stephanie closer to Jeremy? And do you think Owen Kent is going to escape that institution? Sound off below because this story is far from over!

WATCH THIS: Bad boys are always the hottest boys!

@soapoperamag I know Owen is a bad guy and Jeremy is questionable, but… THEY ARE JUST SO HOT, THOUGH! Stephanie has three gorgeous dudes vying for her heart. Lucky girl! Okay, okay, I know Owen is a monster, but I wouldn't kick him out of my bed. Kinda wish they were keeping him around so he could be redeemed and we could all fall in love with the reformed hottie! #DAYS #DOOL #DaysofOurLives ♬ original sound – Soap Opera Magazine
