Here is what happened Monday at the Brady Pub. Theo Carver stood up from his table, said “see you later,” and walked out the door. Underneath the menu he left behind was his journal. His actual, physical, handwritten journal. The one that contains every unspoken thought he has been nursing about Gabi Hernandez. The one that also contains the small matter of his mother being alive. So Gabi picked it up. Gabi opened it. And Gabi knows she’s “G” – his secret crush. Yuck!

Pause on the audacity of this. She saw him writing as she walked in. He said it was a “To Do” list. If he was telling the truth about THAT, Gabi would have been number one. But we digress. A journal is not something you leave inches from the woman you are secretly in love with. A journal is something you hide. It is certainly not something you slide under a laminated menu two feet from the subject of every pining paragraph inside of it and then wander out the door. Theo is a smart man. This was dumb on every level.

Theo and Gabi Are Giving Caring Older Sister and Pal, Not Soulmates

Let’s talk about the vibe. Arianna Horton is in college. Gabi is in her mid thirties. She has lived through Stefan DiMera twice, a marriage to Nick Fallon, a business empire, a stint in prison, and whatever she is currently running with Philip Kiriakis. Theo, despite being old enough on paper, reads five years younger on a good day, and the way Gabi looks at him has never once given girlfriend. It has given little brother. It has given the protective warmth you save for someone you helped raise from across the dinner table.

When she chased him out of trivia night on a recent episode, she did not do it the way a woman chases a man she wants to kiss. She did it the way a woman chases a kid brother who just stormed off in a mood.

The Wrong DiMera Is Writing the Love Notes

Here’s the other problem nobody wants to say out loud. Gabi is not Team DiMera anymore. She is deep into Team Titan. This very week, she and Philip are sharing romance. They’ve recently moved in together (which seems insane, but we digress yet again). That is a Kiriakis bed she’s in now, not a DiMera one. The feud between those two families has been eternal, bloody, and career ending. Theo Carver pining after a woman currently being wooed by a Kiriakis is a hostage situation waiting to be written.

And if we are picking a side, and we are, we are on the side of Gabi keeping her options open – because we’re also sure Stefan is coming back alive eventually – and Theo finding a woman who reads his vibes back. Salem has a posse who would love to have dinner with him. He doesn’t need to write sonnets to the one woman whose last name changes every decade.

Start a New Journal, But Keep the Old One Going

Here is where it gets fun. Gabi is not cruel. Gabi is going to give the journal back with a gentle, almost motherly warning that she is rooting for him but not for them. And Theo will be embarrassed, and humbled, and still in love with her, because men in Salem do not learn.

So yes, he needs a new journal. He may keep it hidden this time. But he’ll write about his mother Lexie Carver being alive and eventually, Abe Carver will find it. Gabi finding out about Theo’s crush is chapter one. A blip on Salem’s screen. Abe finding out his wife is alive will bring everything crumbling down.
