Ava Jerome stood in the Metro Court Gardens on September 16 and watched Agent William Baines cuff Nina Reeves for the disappearance and possible murder of Jack Brennan. Nina kicked and screamed. Phones came out. Ava, who knows exactly where Brennan has been lying since Labor Day weekend, stood there and said nothing.
Here is what Ava did and did not sign up for. On August 31, at Drew Cain‘s urging, she slipped Brennan a sleeping pill to keep him busy. Brennan died, and on September 2 the two of them buried him on the Quartermaine nature preserve. Ava went along with the cover-up because she had no choice by then. She never agreed to let her best friend take the fall.
Drew had other plans. He planted Brennan’s wallet in Nina’s car, and Carly Spencer did the rest by handing Baines the story of Nina’s public threat against Brennan in late August. Between the wallet and the witnesses, the WSB had a suspect gift wrapped. Ava Jerome Goes Down, Drew Goes Down
The September 16 episode handed us the setup in plain sight. Ava told Drew about the tick she picked up on the preserve and warned him that tracing it could lead investigators straight to the grave. Then she reminded him of the deal: if she goes down, he goes down right beside her. Drew flashed back to the wallet, looked her in the eye, and promised that if anyone came looking for a name, it would never be hers. He just left out whose name it would be.
Hours later, in story time, Nina is in custody and Ava has done the math. Drew’s frame job against Nina was never a contingency plan. On September 17, Ava Jerome walks into that confrontation carrying a horrified front-row memory of the arrest and a promise from the man who caused it. She is not there to ask what happened. She is there to ask why he let it happen to Nina.
Does Ava Know Drew Framed Nina on General Hospital?
The show has not put the words in her mouth yet, but everything on screen says she has figured it out. Drew’s promise to Ava aired on the same episode as Nina’s arrest, and he made it while privately reliving the wallet drop. Reading between the lines, Ava saw a man who was calm about Nina’s arrest when he should have been sweating, and calm is not a look Drew wears when he is scared. My gut says she confronts him already knowing, and the only question is whether she says it out loud.
Meanwhile, Sonny Corinthos is not waiting for anyone’s permission. He watched his ex-wife get dragged off and he goes straight to Justine Turner in the DA’s office for answers. The problem is jurisdiction. This is a WSB case, not a Port Charles case, so Justine may know plenty and be able to say almost none of it. Sonny is going to keep pushing anyway, because that is what Sonny does.
Nina Cracks and Somebody Has to Talk
Then there is Nina herself. She told Sonny and Ava on September 16 that she had no idea where Brennan was, and she meant it. Now she is in a cell facing a murder charge with a wallet she cannot explain and a threat half the Metro Court heard her make. The spoilers say she cracks under pressure. Whether that means tears or a name, the only names Nina has to give are the people she was seen with before Brennan vanished.
Don’t be surprised if Ava Jerome’s real fear is not the WSB at all. It is Nina finding out that the woman holding her hand through this is the woman who helped dig the hole. If I know these writers, that reveal is being saved, and every episode Ava stays quiet makes the eventual blowup uglier. The tick, the grave, and Cody’s dog are all sitting out there on the preserve waiting to be found.
