JASON MORGAN IS LEAVING HIS SON BEHIND AGAIN AND DANNY MORGAN DESERVES SO MUCH BETTER THAN THIS

TL;DR: Jason Morgan sat down with his son, told him he was leaving town with no details and no contact, arranged a guardian, and accepted a hug over a late night snack on General Hospital. Danny said his mom would have wanted Jason to help. That is the saddest sentence this show has ever written and we are not moving past it without talking about it.

Let Us Talk About Danny Morgan for a Moment

Danny Morgan lost his mother. Sam McCall is gone and Danny has been navigating that grief while watching his father come back from the dead, go undercover for the FBI, make choices that affected everyone around him, and now prepare to leave town again with Britt Westbourne on a mission Danny is not allowed to know anything about.

He is a kid. He has been through everything. And tonight he sat across from his father, heard the words “I have to leave and I cannot tell you why,” and said his mom would have wanted Jason to help.

Danny Morgan used his dead mother’s memory to give his father permission to abandon him. And Jason Morgan took it.

We need to talk about that.

What Jason Actually Did

Let us be precise about the sequence of events in that Quartermaine kitchen tonight.

Jason told Danny he was leaving. He told him there would be no contact and no details. He arranged Alexis Davis as his legal guardian with backup from Tracy QuartermaineMichael Corinthos, and Carly Spencer. He told his son how proud he was of the person he was becoming. He agreed to attend Danny’s basketball game the next day. He accepted a hug. And then he is leaving.

That basketball game is tomorrow. Jason will be gone shortly after. Danny will stand in that gymnasium knowing his father is about to disappear again and he will cheer anyway because that is the kind of kid Danny Morgan is.

Jason Morgan does not deserve that kid. We said what we said.

The Part That Actually Breaks Us

Here is the moment that we cannot get past.

Danny did not yell. He did not beg. He did not make his father feel guilty. He sat across from Jason Morgan and said that his mom would have wanted Jason to help. Sam McCall, who spent years waiting for Jason to choose his family over the mission, is now being invoked by her own son to justify the exact pattern that defined her entire relationship with this man.

Sam spent her life hoping Jason would stay. Danny is using her memory to tell him it is okay to go. That is not closure. That is a child absorbing his father’s choices so completely that he has started doing the emotional labor of justifying them.

General Hospital wrote that moment deliberately. They know exactly what they are doing. And we are going to need everyone to sit with how devastating that actually is.

Jason Morgan Has a Pattern and Danny Morgan Is Living Inside It

This is not the first time Jason has left Danny. It will not be the last. Danny knows this. Alexis knows this. Tracy knows this. The entire Quartermaine mansion knows this and has quietly arranged itself around the fact that Jason Morgan loves his son enormously and keeps leaving anyway.

The difference this time is Sam is not here to hold Danny together while Jason is gone. The difference this time is Danny is old enough to understand exactly what is happening and gracious enough not to say so.

Jason Morgan told his son he was proud of the person he was becoming. He should be. Because Danny Morgan is handling his father’s absence with more maturity than most adults manage their best days.

That is not a compliment to Jason. That is an indictment.

Danny Morgan said his mom would have wanted Jason to help and we are not okay. Are you? Sound off below because this one deserves a conversation!

WATCH THIS: How about a Jason & Britt baby?

@soapoperamag GIVE US A JABRITT BABY! Okay, listen, I can respect Steve Burton taking Jason off canvas to spend time with his family. I can respect the show sending him and Britt away, I guess. But, I feel like a way to make this break up to us is by having the pair come back with a Morgan bun in Britt's oven. Wouldn't it be fun if their return coincided with a Britt pregnancy? #GeneralHospital โ™ฌ original sound – Soap Opera Magazine
