Soap Opera Digest broke the news this week that Kathleen Gati is returning to General Hospital as the iconic Liesl Obrecht on Friday, April 24. Yes, THIS Friday. Put it in the calendar. Call a friend. Pour something with ice.

The scheming doctor we love to cross has officially wrapped her little New Zealand sabbatical, and the timing could not be more explosive.

In the onscreen storyline, Obrecht shipped herself off to a medical conference in early March. The real reason? Her daughter Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) orchestrated the entire departure to get her mother to stop meddling in Nathan West (Ryan Paevey)’s love life and his choice of Lulu Spencer (Alexa Havins) over a reunion with Maxie Jones(Kirsten Storms). Classic Britt damage control.

Off screen, Kathleen Gati was also keeping busy. The actress told Soap Opera Digest she spent several months in Spain filming a Netflix project, but she was thrilled to get back to Port Charles. Paraphrased lovingly from her quote: Liesl is her favorite character of her entire career and she misses her when she is away too long. The feeling, doctor, is mutual.

The man everyone has been calling Nathan West is not Nathan West at all. He is Nathan’s twin brother, Cassius. And he has been impersonating his dead sibling for months.

Britt has known the entire time and has kept her mouth firmly shut.

Obrecht? Presumably still under the impression that her son came back from the dead and is happily living his best life in Port Charles. The question every theory thread is chasing right now is the one that matters most. Did Obrecht even know she birthed twins to begin with? If she did not, this reveal will detonate in her face. If she did, she has been sitting on one of the biggest secrets in Port Charles history for decades and she owes us ALL an explanation.

The Mess Waiting for Her at Home

Britt is in her own private nightmare. Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota) and Ross Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) are strong-arming her into finishing the dangerous cold fusion project her late father Cesar Faison (Anders Hove) launched before his death. Britt tried to wriggle free. Cullum tried to murder her and Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) in cold blood. Little Rocco Falconeri (Finn Carr) stepped in and shot Cullum in the back to stop him. Jason took the rap and the WSB whisked him away. Britt is terrified of what Cullum will do if he ever clocks that Rocco pulled that trigger.

Now Mama is coming home. Liesl has threatened people with ICICLES over far less. If anyone can storm into this disaster and shake it by the collar, it is her.

The Felicia of It All

Obrecht’s frenemy Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) is also a casualty of the Sidwell and Cullum circus. Anna was held hostage at Wyndemere, drugged into paranoid psychosis, and has been institutionalized in France with a prognosis that is not good. Her hallucinations even featured a phantom Liesl administering a phlebotomy treatment in a grimy back room. Living rent free in a French asylum? On brand.

When Kathleen Gati returns Friday, her very first scenes feature a meeting with Felicia Scorpio (Kristina Wagner), Anna’s loyal and deeply worried best friend. Felicia has news about Anna. Felicia has a proposition. We do not know the particulars yet but we have opinions.
