LUCY COE BUILT A PLAN THAT REQUIRES EVERYONE IN PORT CHARLES TO BEHAVE EXACTLY THE WAY SHE PREDICTS AND WE SHOULD ALL BE WORRIED

TL;DR: Lucy Coe walked into Sonny Corinthos’s office on Monday and admitted she made a mistake on General Hospital, which is historic enough to require its own holiday. Then she explained the plan she has cooked up to fix it. The plan involves Ava Jerome, Jenz Sidwell, jealousy on demand, and approximately zero awareness of the lethal company she is keeping. Lucy Coe is going to get herself in serious trouble and the audience needs to watch this one through their fingers.

Lucy Coe Started With the Most Shocking Opening Move of the Year, Which Is Admitting She Was Wrong

Lucy Coe sat down with Sonny Corinthos in his office and said the words. “I made a judgment error.” Out loud. To another grown adult. About Jenz Sidwell. Lucy Coe of the white horse and the Nurses’ Ball and the running fashion show monologues admitted she had picked the wrong business partner and needed help fixing it.

The earth shifted on its axis. Birds flew backwards. Brad Cooper felt a disturbance in the universe and could not place it. This is a woman who has spent her entire Port Charles tenure operating on the assumption that her instincts are infallible, and the fact that she copped to being wrong should have been the warning sign to everyone in the room that things were about to get worse, not better.

Because admitting you were wrong is supposed to be the moment you take a beat. Lucy Coe does not take beats. Lucy Coe took her wrongness, walked out of Sonny’s office, and started cooking up a fix-it plan that has more moving parts than the chandelier at Wyndemere.

The Plan Requires Three Other People to Behave Exactly the Way Lucy Coe Predicts, Which Is Not How People Work

Step one. Lucy Coe plays Jenz Sidwell into thinking she is interested. Step two. Lucy Coe makes Ava Jerome jealous on cue. Step three. Ava Jerome, a woman who has murdered people for less than a parking spot, is supposed to escalate to giving Sidwell an ultimatum. Step four. Sidwell is supposed to reject the ultimatum because Sidwell does not do ultimatums. Step five. Ava is supposed to be so distracted being humiliated that Lucy Coe can swoop in and reclaim Deception during the chaos.

Read that out loud. Now read it again. Lucy Coe has built a plan that requires Ava Jerome, the most mercurial woman in the city, to behave with the predictability of a chess piece. She has built a plan that requires Jenz Sidwell, a man who has tried to kill Holly Sutton and ordered the murder of his own son’s killer, to politely decline an ultimatum and walk away unbothered. She has built a plan that requires herself, a fashion executive with a rhinestone past, to outmaneuver an arms dealer in his own pocket.

Three of the steps end with Lucy Coe dead. The other five end with Lucy Coe needing a passport and a new identity. Not one of them ends with Deception coming home.

Ethan Lovett Has Been Quietly Trailing Lucy Coe and That Is the Only Reason This Is Survivable

Sonny Corinthos has been one move ahead of Lucy this entire time, which is the saving grace of the entire enterprise. He told Ethan Lovett on Monday that Lucy might need saving from herself. He told Ethan to keep eyes on her. Thursday April 30, Ethan was already in the alcove watching Lucy and Ava fight over Sidwell at the Metro Court Garden. Lucy did not see Ethan. Lucy did not know Ethan was there. Lucy is operating under the assumption that she is the smartest person in the building, which is the exact assumption that gets people killed in Sonny Corinthos’s orbit.

The good news is that Sonny Corinthos has put a man between Lucy Coe and Jenz Sidwell. The bad news is that Lucy Coe is going to walk straight past that man and into a Sidwell ambush at some point in the next two weeks because the woman has never met a stakeout she did not blow herself up out of.

Port Charles has watched Lucy Coe survive worse. Lucy has been kidnapped, married off, dropped down elevator shafts, and chased through hotel lobbies for forty years. The woman is functionally indestructible. But every cat has nine lives and Lucy Coe has spent at least seven of hers, and the eighth is currently in play at a corner table at the Metro Court while she practices her flirty look in the mirror.

The Saving Grace Is That Lucy Coe Always Makes It Out Alive and the Audience Will Watch It All

Lucy Coe will survive this. Lucy Coe always survives. The woman has been thrown off Wyndemere’s parapet and walked into Crimson the next morning in a fresh outfit. But the road from where she is sitting today to where she ends up triumphant is going to be paved with the kind of wreckage that takes out at least one supporting character and a piece of Deception’s cap table.

The article cannot tell you who dies. The show is not telling us yet. What we can tell you is that Lucy Coe is the one running into the burning building, Ethan Lovett is the one running in after her, Jenz Sidwell is the one who lit the match, and Ava Jerome is the one watching from the parking lot with a cocktail wondering when the screaming starts. Whatever happens next, the audience is along for the entire ride.

Lucy Coe came home from Sonny Corinthos’s office with a plan. The plan is held together by hope, hairspray, and the assumption that everyone else in town will play their assigned role. We give the plan three weeks. We give Lucy Coe forever.
