General Hospital fans are furious that Maxie Jones’s exit took her entire legacy family down with her, and honestly, so are we too.

General Hospital didn’t only write off Maxie Jones, they took Spinelli and all three kids down with her, and fans are not having it.
The Exit Nobody Asked For
Maxie Jones sold her Deception shares to Michael Corinthos, Spinelli took a job offer in Australia, and the whole family packed up and left Port Charles for good. Georgie Spinelli, James West, and Bailey Lu Jones went with them, closing the door on a legacy that’s been part of this canvas since the 1990s.
Nobody outside the writers’ room asked for this decision. Maxie Jones survived a heart transplant from her own cousin, built a life in Port Charles across decades, and helped create one of the show’s only functioning business storylines, and she got erased along with her entire household in a single stretch of episodes. A character with that much history deserved better than a clean sweep off the canvas.

Recasting Exists for a Reason
Kirsten Storms needing distance from the role is real, and nobody’s arguing with that. What sets us off is the choice GH made in response to it: instead of recasting a character with this much history, the show chose to remove her, Spinelli, and three children from the canvas entirely, and we don’t buy that there wasn’t a better option on the table. A recast happens on soaps constantly, and viewers adjust every time.
One reader summed up our own reaction better than we could in an email to us: recasting would have kept Spinelli, kept James, and let Georgie finally age into the Charlotte and Danny crew instead of vanishing with her parents. We’ve been saying some version of that all day, and we’re not the only ones who see a simpler fix that never got tried.
The Fans Are Saying It Louder Than We Are
Our comments and inbox have been packed since the news broke, and the mood is somewhere between heartbroken and furious over Maxie Jones’s exit. Kathaleen Chapman put it bluntly: “This makes no sense at all!! Why not recast her?” Sue Grimaldi was every bit as direct, writing that it’s “her whole family out of jobs because of this ridiculous idea.”
It’s not only about Maxie, either. Several fans specifically brought up how unfair this whole situation is to Bradford Anderson, with Michele Drury writing that he “could stay and share scenes with Steve or get a new storyline” instead of being written out over a character he doesn’t even play. Mona A Doucette told us she’s officially done watching after decades as a fan, calling it “the last straw,” and we understand exactly where that anger is coming from.
We’re Not Over It, and Neither Is Anyone Else
Every version of this reaction, ours included, comes back to the same point: Maxie Jones’s entire legacy family got erased in one move when a recast would have solved everything. That’s not a plot complaint, and it’s not us being dramatic for the sake of it. That’s a decision that cost real people their jobs and cost longtime fans a family they’ve followed for decades, and nobody asked for either one.
