Ric stormed into that precinct, shut down Nathan’s questioning, dropped the Chase bombshell on Justine and Dante Falconeri, and told Michael before they even walked in that if they played this right, the PCPD would suffer the consequences. That is not a defense attorney. That is a man building an offensive strategy.

Ric already told Michael that he was walking into a trap. Now imagine Ric figures out that Willow planted the key. He doesn’t report it. He uses it. Michael could construct a case so airtight that Willow wouldn’t see it coming until the handcuffs were already on.
