Genie Francis first stepped into the role of Laura in 1977, and nearly five decades later, Port Charles still cannot picture itself without her. Her wedding to Luke Spencer in 1981 remains the most-watched hour in soap opera history, the kind of résumé line most actors would frame and retire on. Instead, she kept showing up, and this award is daytime finally saying thank you out loud.
