Kirsten Storms is speaking out again, this time with police paperwork in hand. The General Hospital alum says a break-in at her old apartment, not any mental health concern, is what sparked the custody case her ex-husband Brandon Barash filed against her earlier this year.
The Break-In That Started It All
Kirsten Storms says the entire legal fight traces back to something that has nothing to do with parenting at all. It started with a break-in at her former apartment in Franklin, Tennessee, one she says she reported to both the building management and the Franklin Police Department months before anything ever reached a courtroom.
According to police paperwork Storms posted publicly this week, officers followed up on that original report in December, confirming she still had evidence to submit and that no offense report had been filed after her initial call in November. She says several missing items later turned up placed back inside her own vehicle, one at a time, something she ties to an old Jeep that had its doors removed rather than to anything more alarming.

A Custody Case She Calls Unnecessary
In April, Brandon Barash, best known as Johnny Zacchara on General Hospital and Stefan DiMera (and, briefly, his twin Jake DiMera) on Days of Our Lives, filed for emergency custody and a restraining order against his ex-wife, according to court documents obtained by multiple outlets, citing concerns about stability and their daughter Harper’s wellbeing. The filing reportedly raised allegations dating back to mid-2025, including claims of hallucinations and a psychotic episode, along with concerns about substance use, none of which have been independently verified.
Kirsten Storms disputes that framing entirely. She maintains the break-in and its chaotic aftermath, not any mental health crisis, are what actually triggered the filing, and says the case has since moved toward mediation rather than in front of a judge, a shift she considers meaningful on its own.
Where Things Stand Now
Kirsten Storms has spent the years since being fairly open about her health, from a brain aneurysm diagnosis that first sent her away from Los Angeles to a psychologist she credits with giving her exactly the kind of care she needs. She says treating her mental health as the headline, instead of the break-in that started all of this, is what she finds genuinely frustrating.
She was granted supervised visitation while the case proceeds, and she’s said publicly that Harper remains, in her words, the most important person in her life. Kirsten Storms stepped away from General Hospital’s Maxie Jones this past summer, but the woman behind one of Port Charles’ longest-running characters has made clear this fight was never about the show.
