TL;DR: Cullum walked into Carly’s living room today on General Hospital and saw a photo of Jason and Danny on the mantle. He decided Danny Morgan was the kid who shot him. He could not be more wrong. Now Cullum is going after the wrong child, and Danny is one bad day away from being kidnapped to extract a confession from a man who has nothing to confess.
Cullum Did the Math With the Wrong Photo
Ross Cullum walked into Carly Spencer‘s house today on General Hospital and did some detective work.
He noticed Carly was tense. He noticed Jason Morgan was refusing to talk. He noticed Jason was willing to do federal prison time rather than name the actual shooter. He noticed the framed photo of Jason and Danny Morgan sitting on Carly’s mantle like a confession he had not been able to crack.
Cullum left her house convinced he had figured it out. Danny shot him. Jason was protecting his son.
Cullum is completely wrong.

Why Cullum Landed on Danny
Cullum was looking for a kid Jason would die for, and Danny Morgan is the only kid in Jason’s orbit who fits. Jason has been raising Danny as his own since Sam died. Jason has dropped everything for that boy more times than the writers can track. Jason walked into a federal interrogation chamber and refused to identify his own shooter, which is exactly what a father does when the shooter is his own son.
Cullum followed the logic. He noticed the photo. He asked Carly the one question that would force a reaction. Who would your best friend be willing to go to prison for? Carly did not answer. Cullum already had it.
He is going to act on this within the week.
The Kidnap Plot Cullum Is Building
This is what people who take federal jobs do when they cannot get a confession through legal channels. They take the leverage. Cullum is going to grab Danny Morgan. He is going to use Danny to get Jason to confess to the shooting in exchange for the kid’s safety. He is going to threaten Danny on a phone call to Jason in his federal cell. He is going to make sure Jason knows the only way out is to confess officially and end the inquiry.
Jason cannot confess to a crime Danny did not commit. But Jason also cannot let Danny be tortured by a WSB director with a personal grudge. The trap is in motion. Cullum does not need the truth. He needs an end to the case. And kidnapping a teenager is faster than continuing the investigation.
The Devastating Twist Cullum Doesn’t See Coming
Here is what makes this storyline soap perfect. Danny did not shoot Cullum. Rocco Falconeri shot Cullum. Cullum has been investigating the wrong kid since the moment he walked out of Carly’s living room. Every move he makes to extract a confession from Danny is a move against an innocent child for a crime he did not commit, while the actual shooter is sitting in his bedroom with Dante Falconeri running cover.
If Cullum grabs Danny, he gets nothing useful out of him. Danny does not know what happened on the pier. Danny cannot confess to a crime he did not see. Cullum is going to interrogate the wrong fifteen year old, and the entire operation is going to fall apart the second Danny says anything.
The bigger problem is that Cullum will not believe Danny is innocent. He has decided. He has a photo on a mantle and a Jason refusal to talk, and he has built an entire theory on those two pieces. Cullum is going to keep going until Danny gives him an answer. And Danny will give him whatever Cullum wants to hear, because that is what fifteen year olds do under threat.
What This Does to Jason
Jason is going to find out his son has been taken. Jason is going to get the call in his federal cell. Jason is going to have to choose between confessing to a crime he did not commit and watching Danny die.
He will confess. He always confesses. Jason has been confessing to other people’s crimes since 1996 and his back hurts and he is tired. He will tell Cullum exactly what Cullum wants to hear. The shooting will be officially closed. Danny will be released. And Cullum will walk out of the case with a confession that solves nothing because he still has not caught the actual shooter.
The actual shooter, Rocco, is sitting in Dante’s house thinking he has gotten away with it. He has not. Cullum walks free, looking for an excuse to circle back, and the next time he comes through Carly’s door, he is bringing Danny home in pieces or not at all.
Bring tissues. Danny Morgan is about to live through the worst week of his fifteen-year life, and the man who put him there does not even have the right child.
