The Quartermaine mansion has never been big enough to hold two women this stubborn, and on Wednesday the gloves come off for good. Tracy Quartermaine has spent days convinced that Willow is circling Chase like a shark, and after getting herself slapped in handcuffs over a lakeside shoving match, she is in no mood to be lectured. So when she turns her fire on Brook Lynn, it is the collision the whole family has been bracing for.

Here is the deliciously messy part. Brook Lynn is running her own quiet operation to get Willow out of her marriage for good, the kind of scheme Tracy Quartermaine would normally applaud. But with Tracy freshly arrested and her own credibility on the line, grandmother and granddaughter are suddenly working the same problem from opposite ends and tripping over each other in the process. Tracy wants to know exactly what Brook Lynn is up to, and she is not going to accept a polite brush-off.

What makes this confrontation land is that these two are far too alike to back down. Tracy Quartermaine practically invented the Quartermaine power play, and Brook Lynn learned at the master’s knee. When they go head to head over how to handle the Willow problem, neither one is wrong, exactly, and that is precisely what makes it explosive. Somebody is going to have to blink first, and history says it will not be Tracy.
