Before Charlotte Cassadine‘s phone call interrupted them, things were heading somewhere that had nothing to do with alliances or strategy. Then Valentin told Carly to dump Jack Brennan. Not because it was tactically smart. Because he does not want to share her anymore. He said she makes him want to be an honest man.

Jack Brennan showed up. Valentin hid on the back patio. And from the other side of a glass door, he watched everything unfold.

Jack told Carly that Jason Morgan is being held at a WSB black site near Jakarta. He told her he loved her. He asked if she wanted a future with him. And Carly, who had been kissing Valentin in that same living room less than an hour earlier, took Jack Brennan upstairs to her bedroom.

Valentin Cassadine did not leave. He stood behind that glass and watched. Then he walked to the bottom of the staircase and tried to listen. A man who has overthrown governments. A man who has outmaneuvered the WSB, the PCPD, and Sonny Corinthos simultaneously. Standing at the bottom of Carly Spencer’s stairs like someone who has completely lost the plot over a woman he was never supposed to want.

He pulled his hood up. He walked into the night.

She Pictured Him

Carly Spencer was in bed with the WSB director. The man who gave her the one piece of information about Jason that nobody else could. The man who said he loved her. The man she chose to take upstairs.

And she looked down at him and pictured Valentin.

That is not a woman running a con. That is not a woman keeping a fugitive around for information. That is a woman whose body is in one place and whose mind is in the attic with a man she has absolutely no business falling for.

Carly may not admit it yet. She may not understand it yet. But the picture does not lie. And Valentin, somewhere in Port Charles with his hood up, has no idea that the woman who chose another man tonight was thinking about him the entire time.

Love or the Long Game

Here is what keeps us up at night about this.

Carly Spencer is protecting Valentin Cassadine. She is hiding him. She is covering up a car accident involving his daughter. She has access to Sonny, to Jason’s location through Jack, and to every back channel in Port Charles. If Valentin wanted a strategic partner to help him survive, he could not have designed a better one than the woman whose attic he is sleeping in.

But strategic partners do not kiss in living rooms. They do not ask women to dump their boyfriends because it hurts too much to share. They do not stand at the bottom of staircases listening to what is happening in the bedroom above them. And they do not walk off into the night looking like they just lost something they cannot name.

Either Valentin Cassadine is falling in love with Carly Spencer and it is about to destroy every careful plan he has ever built. Or he is running a con so deep that even the heartbreak is part of the performance. And Carly, picturing a Cassadine while a WSB director sleeps beside her, cannot tell the difference.

Neither can Port Charles. Neither can we. And that is exactly why Carly Spencer should be terrified.
