The Week Brooke Is Living In

Brooke Logan has had a genuinely wonderful week. She walked into Steffy’s office and found out HFTF was coming back. She hugged her daughter. She hugged Steffy. She thanked Ridge Forrester and told him how wonderful it was to have Hope and her line back at Forrester. She cooed. She beamed. She told Eric Forrester and Zende the news. She said her daughter had been becoming disillusioned and this had happened in the nick of time.

Every single one of those feelings was built on something that is not true.

Hope Logan is not coming back to Forrester Creations. She smiled and nodded and forced her way through a week of her mother’s happiness while Katie Logan reminded her across town that there was no turning back and the collection needed to drop as soon as possible. Hope stood in Steffy’s office getting hugged by her mother and nearly confessed everything. She did not. She smiled instead. And Brooke Logan went home believing her daughter was back where she belonged.

What Brooke Does Not Know

Here is the complete picture she is currently missing. Hope Logan has been working with Katie at Logan Designs during her leave of absence. Bill Spencer is backing the operation. Wyatt Spencer produced the Hope for the Future diamond on demand. Deke Sharpe is the secret weapon on the design team. The collection is dropping next week. The Forresters find out next week they have been outmaneuvered by a fashion house they have spent this entire week dismissing.

And Brooke has been doing some of the dismissing herself. She has been telling Ridge she wishes things could go back to the way they were. She has expressed certainty that there is no hope for Logan Designs’ future. She has complained about her sister’s judgment and her choices and the company Bill handed her. She has been wrong about every single thing, and she has been wrong about it with full confidence, in front of witnesses, all week.

The moment she finds out that Hope not only stayed at Logan Designs but is the centerpiece of its launch is going to be one of the most complicated emotional scenes this show has staged in years.

How Badly Does This Break Her

Brooke Logan told Hope she could never disappoint her. She said it with her whole chest, in the middle of a hug, in Steffy Forrester’s office, while Hope was actively keeping the biggest secret of their relationship from her. Brooke said Hope was back where she belonged. Brooke was proud. Brooke was relieved.

Katie told Hope that when Brooke finds out, she will eventually be proud of her too. That she will come around. That if she does not, that is on Brooke. Katie is probably right about all of that in the long run. But the long run is not what concerns us. What concerns us is the moment between when Brooke finds out and when she comes around. That moment is going to be volcanic.

Hope has spent this week calling herself a hypocrite for keeping secrets while criticizing her mother for keeping secrets. She is not wrong about that. And she has kept secrets of her own for decades and been forgiven for them by the same daughter who is currently lying to her face, and she is going to have to reckon with what it feels like to be on the other side of that particular family pattern.

The collection drops next week. She does not know. The countdown to the worst hug in Logan family history has begun.
