The Bold and the Beautiful
The Story Behind Scott Clifton’s Stitches on Bold and Beautiful Is Not What You Expected
B&B’s Scott Clifton fainted at home, ended up in the ER, and showed up to work with stitches. He is okay and the story is everything.
SCOTT CLIFTON HAD A ROUGH NIGHT AND THE BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL TEAM SHOWED UP IN THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WAY
TL;DR: Bold and the Beautiful actor Scott Clifton, who plays Liam Spencer, shared that he fainted and hit his head at home, ended up in the ER for stitches and a concussion, and says the cast and crew response was nothing short of extraordinary.
Life Imitates Art, Except This Time It Was Real
You may have noticed something a little different about Liam Spencer lately. Specifically, the stitches above his eyebrows. There was even some playful dialogue between Liam and his brother Wyatt about it. The writers worked it in. The makeup team worked around it. And the whole thing went on screen looking like another ordinary day in the life of the Spencers.
Except it was not ordinary at all.
Scott Clifton took to Instagram this week to share exactly what happened, and his account of the whole ordeal is equal parts harrowing and deeply heartwarming.

What Actually Happened
The night before the scenes in question were scheduled to shoot, Clifton had been up late managing a stressful situation involving his mother. He got up in the middle of the night and felt something wasn’t right. He could tell he was about to faint.
That’s the last thing he remembered.
He came to slumped over the edge of his bathtub, upper body inside it, feet draped outside, blood everywhere and a splitting headache. His first instinct, in true daytime drama fashion, was to claw his way to the nearest mirror to assess the damage. What he found was, in his own words, a giant hole in his face.
He spent the night in the ER, where doctors scanned him, stitched him up, and gently informed him that a makeup brush would not be coming anywhere near his face for several weeks. They also delivered the news of a concussion and warned him to expect some temporary memory loss and cognitive sluggishness. Not exactly ideal conditions for shooting a television show.
The Part That Really Got Us
When producers Rachel Herman and Casey Kasprzyk got word a few hours later, they told him to stay home and rest. The scenes were rewritten and rescheduled for the following week. In the days leading up to that shoot, they checked in on him constantly.
And then his phone filled up with messages from the cast and crew.
Clifton was effusive in his gratitude, calling the Bold and the Beautiful family a “wholly benevolent daytime empire,” and specifically thanking the makeup team, the on-site medic, the producers, the directors, and his on-screen brother Darin Brooks, who plays Wyatt Spencer, for putting up with what Clifton cheerfully called his “newfound ugly mug.”
He is, by all accounts, doing well. The stitches made it to air. The concussion is behind him. And the Bold and the Beautiful family handled the whole thing with exactly the grace and warmth he described.
We are very glad he is okay.
