A New Restraining Order Names Brenda Dickson
A new filing in Los Angeles has added a serious wrinkle to Brenda Dickson‘s ongoing legal situation. The Young and the Restless alum, best known to fans as the original Jill Abbott, was arrested on a misdemeanor battery charge earlier this summer, and now the man behind that accusation says the incident involved his young daughter.
According to Michael Fairman TV, a man named Richard Chamberlin has filed for a civil harassment restraining order against Brenda Dickson, alleging she struck his daughter, Isabella, in the face and chest during a confrontation on July 8, the same night that led to her arrest. Dickson was booked on the misdemeanor charge and released the same day without bail, and the case had remained largely quiet until this latest filing surfaced this week.

What the Court Documents Allege
Chamberlin, who does property maintenance and rents in the same building as Dickson, claims the July 8 incident was not an isolated one. His filing states she has been stalking and verbally harassing him, Isabella, and another tenant for roughly two months, and that she also bumped Isabella with trash bags and made threats during the encounter. The documents describe an ongoing dispute between neighbors that predates the arrest itself, though the specifics of that history have not been made public beyond what Chamberlin included in his petition.
In his request, Chamberlin asked the court to order Dickson to stay at least five yards away from himself, his daughter, the other renter, and his dog. He is seeking that protection for an extended period while the underlying dispute plays out.
The Court’s Response, and What Comes Next
For now, the request has not been granted. A Los Angeles judge denied Chamberlin’s petition, finding that his paperwork did not sufficiently demonstrate that Brenda Dickson had been violent, threatened violence, or caused substantial emotional distress. A hearing on the matter is scheduled for August 24, when both sides are expected to present their case in full and the judge will have an opportunity to hear directly from those involved.
A Look Back at Her Y&R Legacy
Dickson originated the role of Jill Abbott when The Young and the Restless debuted in 1973, and her portrayal of the character’s rivalry with Katherine Chancellor became one of the show’s defining early storylines. She left the role in 1980, returned for a second run from 1983 to 1987, and the part has since been played by several actresses, most recently Jess Walton. Dickson’s history with the legal system is not new either. A contempt-of-court finding tied to a 2007 divorce case sent her to a Hawaii jail for several months, a ruling an appellate court later overturned after finding she had not been afforded a fair process.
Denying Any Wrongdoing
Dickson addressed the situation directly in a video posted to her Instagram, telling followers she anticipated the story would escalate before it did. She maintained she has never struck anyone in her life and thanked fans for standing behind her while she continues to fight a separate, ongoing legal matter tied to her property. She has not issued a new statement since the restraining order request became public, and it remains unclear whether her attorneys plan to formally respond ahead of the August hearing. Chamberlin, for his part, has not made any additional public comments beyond what is included in his court filing.
