MATT CLARK SAVED NICK’S LIFE AND VICTOR LOCKED HIM UP

TL;DR: On Thursday, May 28, Young and the Restless hands us Matt Clark performing CPR on Nick Newman and bringing him back to life on the floor of Phyllis’s office, then Victor having his guards drag the man who saved his son to the Newman Ranch anyway. Meanwhile Nikki has a nightmare she will not forget, Holden admits to his mother he is falling for Claire, and Claire opens his luggage like a snoop in love.

Matt Clark Performed CPR on Nick and Victor Still Hauled Him to the Ranch

Nick Newman is on the carpet of Phyllis’s office overdosing in real time. Victor Newman calls for an ambulance. Sharon Newman has to explain to Phyllis, of all people, that Nick is an ADDICT. Noah Newman lunges at Matt Clarkbecause of course Noah’s first instinct in any crisis is to throw hands. Matt tells the room the ambulance will not arrive in time. The ONLY way Nick lives is if they let HIM step in. The Newman family balks. Victor finally BARKS at them to let the man try. Reader, Y&R let Matt Clark of all people perform CPR on Nick Newman in front of his entire furious family and we are still hyperventilating.

Matt drops to the floor. He shakes Nick. He slaps Nick. He orders Phyllis Summers to do mouth-to-mouth while he compresses Nick’s chest. Nick GASPS. Matt keeps him conscious until the paramedics burst in. The medics say what Matt and Phyllis did SAVED Nick’s life. The room goes silent. Sienna Clark asks Matt the only question that matters. How did he know what to do? Matt has no idea. Reader, the man with no memory has now resurrected a Newman heir with his bare hands and even HE does not know how.

The Newmans evacuate to the hospital. Phyllis stays behind and asks Matt point blank how he knew. He has no clue and reminds her she TRICKED him into being in this office. Phyllis points out he could have run when Nick hit the floor. He STAYED. He helped. She is grateful. Then Victor returns and orders his guards to escort Matt Clark to the Newman Ranch. He admits he is grateful. He STILL has Matt cuffed and dragged out. Phyllis tells Victor this is WRONG. Sienna asks what he plans to do with Matt. Reader, the Newman patriarch is incapable of saying thank you without attaching a hostage clause. Matt Clark saved this family’s beating heart and they thanked him with restraints. The Uno Reverse is COMPLETE and the patriarchy is unwell.

Nikki Newman stumbles into her suite at the GCAC with a HEADACHE. She takes a painkiller, texts Nick to ask him to breakfast, and texts Jack Abbott to thank him for offering to sponsor Nick. She lies down. She dreams. In her dream, she returns to the Newman Ranch and asks Victor to join her in helping their son. WEEPING, Victor tells her it is too late. Nick is DEAD. Nikki wakes up SCREAMING.

Victoria Newman rushes in. Nikki tells her about the dream, sobbing, saying she does not know what she would do without her children. Jack calls to confirm breakfast and gives her a pep talk. Victoria notices Nikki is still clutching her head. Then Victor calls. Nick HAS overdosed. Nikki freaks. Victoria leads her out to the hospital. Reader, Y&R wrote a nightmare INTO the morning before the morning happened. Melody Thomas Scott is screaming for a Daytime Emmy and she is going to get it.

Jack and Kyle Run Into Victoria at Crimson Lights and Talk Newman Double-Standards

Earlier, Kyle Abbott and Jack ran into Victoria at Crimson Lights. They asked after Nick. Victoria was already worried. Jack opened up about his own recovery from pill addiction and assured her if HE could beat it, Nick could too. Victoria was touched. She also said Victor would never approve of Jack sponsoring her brother.

Jack quietly admitted he HOPES Nikki and Victor never reunite for Nikki’s sake. Victoria could not agree. Kyle came back and the bickering began. Kyle complained about the Newman double-standard. He vented about how invincible Victor feels. Jack told him it does not hurt to show that family some COMPASSION. Reader, Peter Bergman has played the most morally complicated scene of his year and Kyle’s face was doing all the emotional algebra. We are RAPT.

Stephanie Asks Holden About Claire in the Hospital Cafeteria

Up in New York, Holden Novak and his mother Stephanie sit in the hospital cafeteria reminiscing about how she used to feed him when he was small. He says he was never quite the cordon bleu chef she imagined he would be. They talk about how well Malcolm is doing and how he and Lily are even getting along. Then Stephanie asks the question every mother eventually asks. What about Claire?

Holden insists his feelings for Claire Newman are off the table. They are taking it ONE step at a time. Stephanie raises an eyebrow. She tells him she thinks Claire could be the ONE. Then Holden, who has spent years dodging anything resembling commitment, ADMITS he feels a connection to Claire he has never felt with anyone. He admits it is a little scary. Stephanie urges him to be ready. Reader, Y&R is having Holden say grown-up words about a woman to his mother. The MAN is GROWING.

Claire Opens Holden’s Luggage Like a Snoop in Love and They End Up in Bed

Back at the hotel, Claire sits alone in the room, BORED. She flips through a magazine. She stares at Holden’s luggage. She opens it. Reader. SHE OPENS IT. She finds a childhood photo of Holden and FLASHES BACK to them having sex. The story structure of this scene is OBSCENE and we are taking notes. Holden walks in. He is delighted she waited.

They order room service. They talk about his mom reading into the jacket. Claire QUIZZES him about his player history. Holden says no other woman has ever mattered. Claire calls that “kind of sad.” He says he has not found the right woman. He asks if she is over Kyle. She says she does not love Kyle anymore. They KISS. They climb into bed. Reader, Y&R is letting Claire and Holden have a love story while everyone in Genoa City is having an emergency and we are HERE for the genre split.
