The Young and the Restless
Y&R SPICY HOT TAKE! Nate Hastings is a Surgeon in a Suit, Malcolm Winters Needs a Bone Marrow Donor, and Nobody in Genoa City Is Connecting These Dots
Malcolm Winters needs a bone marrow donor on Y&R and Nate Hastings is another guy in a suit. Y&R has no hospital set. Stephanie has a point.

NATE HASTINGS COULD BE SAVING MALCOLM WINTERS AND NOBODY CARES
TL;DR: Malcolm Winters came to Genoa City needing a bone marrow transplant on The Young and the Restless. Neither Lily Winters nor Holden Novak is a match. A donor still needs to be found. Nate Hastings is a surgeon who cannot operate because Devon Winters broke his wrist over Elena Dawson years ago. He is currently another guy in a suit doing God knows what. He could be running Memorial Hospital. He could be coordinating a donor search. Y&R conveniently has no hospital set, so nobody has to answer for any of this. Stephanie Simmons has a point. So do we.
Let Us Start With Malcolm
Malcolm Winters is sick. He needs a bone marrow transplant. He came to Genoa City with Stephanie Simmons, and the situation is urgent enough that Stephanie revealed Holden Novak is Malcolm’s son, specifically in case Holden could be a match. Lily Winters already knew Malcolm was her biological father. Neither Lily nor Holden is a match.
Malcolm still needs a donor.
Genoa City has a hospital. Memorial Hospital has been a fixture of this show for decades. Stephanie worked there alongside Olivia Hastings years ago. The connections between this storyline and that building are sitting right there on the table waiting for someone to pick them up.
Nobody is picking them up.
Genoa City does not appear to currently have a hospital set, which is a remarkable oversight for a city that keeps producing medical emergencies and a remarkable convenience for writers who do not want to explain why the most obvious solution to a bone marrow crisis is standing right there in a suit doing absolutely nothing medical.

The Nate Hastings Situation
Nate Hastings is a surgeon. Was a surgeon, and technically is still a surgeon in the sense that the training does not disappear when the career does.
Here is what happened. Nate slept with Elena Dawson while Devon Winters was dating her. Devon found out. Devon expressed his feelings about this development physically. Nate’s wrist paid the price. The surgical career that Nate had built ended not because of anything that happened in an operating room but because of something that happened between two men over a woman and a betrayal that Genoa City has largely moved past. At the same time, Nate has been left standing on the other side of it in a series of increasingly nice suits.
He cannot perform surgery. That is the reality, and it is not going away.
But here is what Nate absolutely could be doing.
He could be running Memorial Hospital. He has the medical knowledge, the credentials, and the institutional understanding to be the most qualified hospital administrator in Genoa City’s history. He could be sitting behind a desk at Memorial coordinating a bone marrow donor search for a man whose family connections run directly through Nate’s own family. Olivia Hastings worked alongside Stephanie at that very hospital. The threads connecting Nate to this storyline are so obvious that they are practically waving.
Nate is currently another guy in a suit doing God knows what.
The Hospital Set Problem
Let us be very direct about what is actually happening here.
The Young and the Restless does not appear to have a functioning hospital set right now. Memorial Hospital exists in the dialogue. It exists in the history of the show. It exists as the place where Stephanie and Olivia Hastings built careers and where Nate trained to become the surgeon he can no longer fully be.
It does not appear to exist as a place where the show can actually film scenes.
This is enormously convenient for writers who would otherwise have to explain why Nate, a surgeon with direct family connections to the Winters family and a professional history tied directly to Stephanie through Olivia, is not involved in finding a bone marrow donor for Malcolm. No hospital set means no hospital scenes. No hospital scenes means no one has to answer the question Stephanie is essentially asking by being in this storyline at all.
Stephanie worked at Memorial with Olivia. Olivia is Nate’s mother. Malcolm needs medical help. Nate has medical training. The dots are right there.
What Y&R Could Do Right Now
Nate cannot pick up a scalpel. That ship has sailed, and Devon’s fist sailed it. Nobody is asking Y&R to retcon that history or pretend the wrist situation did not happen.
What we are asking is why a man with Nate’s background, Nate’s connections, and Nate’s institutional knowledge is standing around in a suit while Malcolm Winters needs a bone marrow donor, and Memorial Hospital apparently does not exist enough to be useful.
Put Nate in administration. Put him on the phone coordinating a donor search. Put him in a room with Stephanie, where two people who both have deep connections to this family and this hospital can actually do something with those connections.
Stephanie has a point. The show handed her all the pieces to make it, and then apparently forgot that Nate Hastings exists as anything other than a well-dressed background character.
Y&R can do better than this. Nate deserves better than this. Malcolm deserves better than this.
The suit is nice, though. We will give them that.
Do you think Y&R is missing a golden opportunity with Nate Hastings, and should Nate be running Memorial Hospital at this point? Sound off below because this one is going to start a conversation!
