The Young and the Absolutely Relentless! Y&R’s Nikki Newman and Jack Abbott Won’t Let This Bond Go, Even for Their Own Spouses

AT WHAT POINT DO THEY CALL IT?

Nikki Newman and Jack Abbott have both been married to other people more times than either of them can probably count, and yet neither one can seem to ease up on each other, not even when it is actively straining their current marriages. This week alone, Jack nearly postponed a vacation with Diane over it, and Nikki and Victor are still fighting the exact same fight. At what point does the show let them admit what everyone else already sees?

Jack Almost Postponed Diane’s Vacation

On Y&RJack Abbott and Diane Jenkins planned a getaway together, and Jack almost backed out. Not because of a work crisis, not because of anything urgent with his own family, but because he wanted to stay close in case Nick needed him, which really means staying close in case Nikki needed him. Jack and Diane did end up going, but the fact that he hesitated at all says everything.

This is not a one-time slip. Jack has spent years positioning himself as the person Nikki leans on, sponsor, confidant, and, whatever the moment calls for. He almost chose that role over an actual vacation with his own wife. If Jack loved Diane the way he claims to, easing up on Nikki for one week should not have been a debate at all.

Nikki and Victor Are Stuck on Repeat

Meanwhile, Nikki Newman and Victor are still fighting about the exact same thing: whether Jack should be involved in Nick’s recovery at all. This argument is not moving forward. It is the same conversation on a loop: Victor objecting, Nikki defending Jack, nobody actually resolving anything. And somehow it always gets framed as Victor being the problem, the jealous husband standing in the way of a harmless friendship.

Except Victor is not wrong to notice a pattern here. Nikki Newman has been married to Victor, off and on, for decades, and to plenty of other men in between. Jack has been married an equal number of times, and this is not new territory for Nikki either; fans have been documenting her inability to learn from her own patterns for years. If this friendship were really as simple and platonic as they both insist, easing up for the sake of their current spouses would not require this much negotiation every single time it comes up.

Why THIS Bond, Specifically

Nikki Newman and Jack Abbott do share a brain, but not in the way anyone jokes about on Twitter. They share the exact same inability to put a single healthy boundary around this friendship, no matter who they are married to at the time. Every other relationship in both of their lives has come and gone. This one keeps surviving every single marriage either of them has ever had.

That should raise more questions than it does. If Jack genuinely loves Diane, and Nikki genuinely loves Victor, easing up on each other for their spouses’ sake should be simple. Instead, Jack nearly skips a vacation, and Nikki keeps fighting Victor over the same argument on repeat. At some point, the show has to either commit to Nikki and Jack as an eventual couple or explain why two people who claim to be simply friends cannot manage basic boundaries for anyone else.

Do you think Nikki and Jack should finally admit there’s more here? Sound off in the comments below.

A Bond Neither of Them Can Fully Let Go

Nikki Newman and Jack Abbott have been married to other people over and over, and neither one can fully let go of each other even when it costs them peace with their current spouses. Jack nearly skipping Diane’s vacation and Nikki still fighting Victor over the same argument prove this bond is not going anywhere on its own.
