TL;DR: Nikki Newman and Victoria Newman were at Society on The Young and the Restless having an in depth conversation about Victor and Jack while Nick Newman was sitting in a Las Vegas storage room surviving on a desperate dose of Smarties that Matt Clark gave him before emerging to tell Adam and Chelsea that Nick was dead. Nikki is a recovered alcoholic. Nick has a pill problem. Victoria’s former stepfather was the victim of the crime they were discussing. Nobody mentioned Nick once. As for Nick being dead, this is not our first day.

Let Us Set the Scene at Society

Nikki Newman is mad at Victor Newman. Understandably. Victor kidnapped Jack Abbott, stashed him on a yacht in Lake Michigan with Patty Williams as his latest pawn, and Nikki confirmed the whole thing before Victor threw her out of the Ranch. Nikki has feelings about all of this, and those feelings are valid.

Here is what is interesting about those feelings though. Jack Abbott is not just some Genoa City citizen Victor decided to target. Jack Abbott is Nikki’s close friend. One of her oldest and most complicated friendships in a town full of complicated friendships. Victor kidnapped her friend. The man Nikki is furious at kidnapped the man she is also close to and somehow the conversation at Society is primarily about Victor rather than about what was done to Jack.

Victoria Newman has Victor’s back, as per usual. This is where we need to stop and ask Victoria a direct question. Jack Abbott was married to Nikki. That makes him Victoria’s former stepfather. Victoria grew up with this man in her orbit. Her mother has remained close friends with him for years. Victor kidnapped Victoria’s former stepfather and used Patty Williams to do it, and Victoria is at Society defending Victor Newman.

We are going to need Victoria to sit with that for a moment.

Nick Newman did not come up once.

What Nick Newman Was Actually Doing

While Nikki and Victoria were at Society working through their Victor feelings, Nick Newman was in a Las Vegas storage room.

Matt Clark, currently operating in Vegas as Ronnie, covered Nick’s head and kidnapped him after Nick walked into a meeting that was meant for Adam Newman. Nick went in instead. Classic golden boy move. Both men ended up sitting side by side in the dark, knowing exactly who they were looking at.

Matt has since emerged from that storage room to tell Adam and Chelsea Lawson that Nick Newman overdosed and is dead. This is not our first day. Joshua Morrow is not going anywhere. What is almost certainly true is that Nick is still in that storage room, surviving on whatever desperate dose of Smarties Matt handed him before walking out to spread that false information.

His mother and sister were at Society and neither of them mentioned him once.

The Part That Makes This Significantly Worse

Here is where we need to talk about something the Society conversation made impossible to ignore.

Nikki Newman is a recovered alcoholic. Multiple times over. She knows what addiction looks like from the inside. She has lived it. She has fought it. She has come back from it more than once with the support of people who were paying attention.

Victoria Newman has watched her mother struggle with addiction. She has been present for those battles. She knows the signs. She knows what it looks like when someone is not okay and hiding it behind functionality and a good reason for everything.

Nick Newman has a pain pill problem that has been escalating since Genoa City. The pills that started as pain management have become something else entirely. He went to Las Vegas running on a dependency that nobody has fully confronted, and he is now in a storage room surviving on whatever Matt Clark decided to give him.

His mother knows exactly what addiction looks like. His sister has watched that addiction up close. Neither one of them is talking about Nick. Neither one of them is connecting the dots. They are at Society debating Victor while their son and brother sit in a Las Vegas storage room, hoping the Smarties hold out.

What Nikki and Victoria Do Not Know Yet

Sharon Newman is reportedly headed to Las Vegas. Adam and Chelsea currently believe Nick is dead. Matt Clark is out in the world spreading that false information while Nick survives on a storage room floor.

Nikki does not know. Victoria does not know. The women who sat at Society and talked about everything except Nick Newman are about to find out that the universe has been keeping score of that particular oversight.

Nikki is furious that Victor kidnapped Jack Abbott, her close friend. Victoria is defending the man who kidnapped her former stepfather. Neither one of them has checked on their son and brother, who went to Las Vegas to handle the man who has been terrorizing their family.

Genoa City has a way of making people regret exactly that kind of absence. This one is going to cost them both.
