The Young and the Restless
Vivica A. Fox Wraps Young and the Restless Run as Nate Hastings and Stephanie Simmons Share Shocking Kiss
Vivica A. Fox Young and the Restless filming has wrapped for now, and her Instagram goodbye lands the same weekend Nate finally kisses Stephanie.
VIVICA A. FOX WRAPS HER STEPHANIE SIMMONS RUN THE SAME WEEKEND NATE MAKES HIS MOVE
TL;DR: Vivica A. Fox told the Young and the Restless set “Until next time” on September 5, 2026, and Nate finally kisses Stephanie in Monday’s episode. She is off to shoot a Netflix comedy, no exit is confirmed, and my gut says Stephanie comes back.
A Bouquet, a Cast Photo and Three Words That Sound Like Goodbye
Vivica A. Fox Young and the Restless fans got a jolt this weekend. On Saturday, September 5, 2026, the actress posted Instagram Stories from the studio: flowers in the makeup room, a thank-you to the glam squad, then a photo with castmates Bryton James, Kate Linder and Sean Dominic captioned to her Y&R family with three words. “Until next time.” That is how an actress talks after taping her last scenes for a while as Dr. Stephanie Simmons.
Monday’s episode, airing September 7, 2026, is the one where Nate Hastings finally kisses her. Day-ahead recaps out of Canada already spell it out: Stephanie drives Nate home from his hand surgery, comes back with takeout, and the two settle in to watch the recording of his operation. Nate tells her he cannot think of a better way to spend an afternoon, or a better person to spend it with. Then he leans in.
Five months of teasing, one afternoon of payoff, and she had already said goodbye to the crew. Anyone who keeps up with casting chatter around Genoa City knows a set goodbye and a screen goodbye are different things. Still, it stings.

Netflix Came Calling With Whoopi, Jenifer and Vanessa
The reason is a movie, not a pink slip. Netflix has Vivica A. Fox lined up for the comedy Women Like Us alongside Whoopi Goldberg, Jenifer Lewis and Vanessa Williams, with Tasha Smith directing and the Obamas’ Higher Ground among the producers. The story follows a new widow dragged to the Hamptons by her best friends and sister on what should have been her 30th anniversary, and cameras roll this fall in New York.
We have been down this road before. Back in May, Stephanie flew to New York to check on Malcolm Winters during his bone marrow ordeal, and the fandom wrote her obituary on the spot. Days later, Fox told a magazine that Stephanie “definitely has a future” on the show, and she called it “a bright future.” A multi-episode spring arc is still running in September.
Then the writers handed her the hospital. Stephanie took the Chief of Staff job at Genoa City Memorial in the June 11 episode, on Nate’s recommendation, and by July she was offering him a surgical road back to medicine. A show does not give a returning actress the hospital and a leading man just to dump her a month later.
Is Vivica A. Fox Leaving Young and the Restless?
Not permanently, as far as anyone has confirmed. She wrapped a block of filming, full stop. There is no exit announcement from CBS, no final airdate, no breakup in the spoilers, and no firing. Because the show tapes weeks ahead, Stephanie stays on screen well past the day Fox left with her flowers.
Here is the piece nobody is talking about. Stephanie shares a son, Holden Novak, with Malcolm, and Malcolm was once married to Nate’s mother, Olivia. Holden is already the half-brother of Nate’s cousin Lily Winters, and through Malcolm he is a step relation of Nate himself, which means Nate is kissing the mother of his former stepfather’s son. Not one character has said it out loud, and Vivica A. Fox plays Stephanie with such easy warmth that most viewers have not noticed.
Fans Are Split, and Audra Charles Is Still Circling
This pairing was dividing viewers before the kiss. One camp calls it forced and sparkless, another says two grown adults can date whoever they please. Meanwhile Audra Charles, dumped by Nate a year ago this month, has spent 2026 trying to talk her way back in and getting nowhere. A lonely Nate with Stephanie out of town is the opening Audra has waited for.
Here is my prediction: don’t be surprised if Stephanie gets called away on hospital business or a New York patient, the same cover the show used in May, rather than a fight with Nate. If the writers do throw a spat between them, don’t buy it as the end. New head writers Jamey Giddens and Dan O’Connor have their first material airing this fall, and since the kiss came from the outgoing team, they get the final say on whether it sticks. My gut says it does, because Vivica A. Fox has said goodbye to this set before and came back with a promotion.

This Kiss Is a Promise, Not a Farewell
The kiss airing after the wrap is a feature, not a bug. The show knew about the movie and planted the flag anyway. You do not give a couple a first kiss on the way out the door unless you plan to pay it off once the actress is back.
The real fight is whether Nate should wait. Team Wait says he finally found a grown woman who treats him like a partner. Team Move On says Audra is right there and he has been alone long enough. Pick your side and bring receipts to our Facebook page.
Quick Answers on Vivica A. Fox and the Nate Kiss
Why did Vivica A. Fox stop filming Young and the Restless?
Fox has a movie to shoot. She is part of the Netflix comedy Women Like Us with Whoopi Goldberg, Jenifer Lewis and Vanessa Williams, which films in New York this fall. Her set goodbye on September 5, 2026 read as a pause in her Stephanie Simmons filming, not a farewell to the role.
When do Nate and Stephanie kiss on Young and the Restless?
The first kiss airs in the US on Monday, September 7, 2026. Stephanie brings Nate home after his hand surgery, comes back with food, and they watch the recording of his operation together. Nate tells her he cannot think of a better person to spend the afternoon with, then kisses her.
Is Stephanie Simmons still Chief of Staff at Genoa City Memorial?
Yes, as of early September 2026. Stephanie accepted the Chief of Staff job in the June 11, 2026 episode after Nate recommended her to the hospital board. Nothing aired or announced since then has removed her from the post, and her title is one reason a permanent exit looks unlikely right now.
