Patty Williams Sends the Abbotts a Present They’ll Never Recover From

Jack Abbott and Diane Jenkins walk back into the Abbott mansion still stinging from a trap that fell apart, and the universe rewards their bad mood with a giant, unmarked box sitting in the middle of the dining room table. Diane’s first guess is a bomb. Security gets called in before anyone touches it, and it turns out housekeeper Mrs. Martinez found the thing sitting at the end of the driveway like a very ominous Amazon delivery.

Once security clears the note, Jack opens it to find Patty Williams in full sentimental villain mode. She claims she was devastated to hear about Jack’s “scare,” thought about swinging by to check on him, then talked herself out of it in case it was a setup. She still wants Jack and Diane to have their happy ending, so she’s decided to step aside, for now, thanks to a “new friend” who convinced her to leave town. Diane reads it as a threat wearing a bow. Jack wants to believe Patty’s gone and let the police handle the rest so she stops running their lives from a distance.

That’s when Phyllis Summers comes pounding on the door, having already been waved in by security, announcing they have a problem. She wants to know if Patty’s reached out to them, then reveals that someone close to her has fallen under Patty’s spell and pitches a three-way team-up to bring her down. Jack and Diane immediately land on the obvious guess, and Phyllis insists the man in question is actually one of the good ones now, just badly outmatched. They fill her in on the gift and the note, she demands they all go hunt Patty down together, Diane isn’t remotely convinced they’re after the same goal, and Jack points out they don’t have a single lead anyway. Phyllis storms out.

Alone again, Jack and Diane can’t stop wondering why Phyllis is quite this invested, and start piecing together that Patty and her mystery accomplice may have skipped town as a pair, though Diane’s not sold. Jack remembers they still haven’t opened the actual gift, and when the box comes back from security, it’s Patty’s beloved stuffed cat, Mr. Kitty himself, staring back at them like an old, extremely unwelcome friend. Diane’s verdict lands somewhere between disturbed and done: this woman is not okay, and she never was.

Matt Clark Means It This Time (Probably)

Over at the Riverbank Motel, Phyllis shows up looking for Matt Clark and finds an empty room instead, immediately assuming Patty talked him into vanishing on her again. She calls him demanding answers and finds a letter waiting with her name on it. In it, Matt insists he isn’t running from Phyllis, he’s trying to fix things. He’s realized his own hero act is the reason Patty won’t leave Genoa City alone, so going with her himself is the only move left. He tells her he loves that she sees the good in him, but the bad still wins, and he begs her to let him go and get on with her life.

Meanwhile at Crimson Lights, Nick Newman is catching up with an unimpressed Adam Newman, who wants to know if this whole being-out-in-public thing is really a good idea this soon. Nick assures him the decision wasn’t made lightly and his team signed off, then thanks Adam for everything, which is enough to make Adam genuinely proud before he takes off. Sharon Newman tells Nick it’s nice seeing the brothers getting along, and he thanks her for standing by him.

That’s the exact moment Matt Clark materializes out of nowhere, startling them both. He assumes Nick being out is a good sign, and Nick coldly informs him he’s clean, no thanks to Matt. Matt fires back that Nick’s alive because of him too, then drops the real bomb: he’s leaving town, and this time he means it. He’s done trying to convince anyone he’s changed, he’s sorry for everything he’s put people through, and this is a real goodbye, the kind where nobody has to think about him again. Which tracks, considering he’d already written the exact same sentiment on motel stationery to Phyllis a few hours earlier. Speaking of Phyllis, she walks in on the whole thing just in time to catch every word.

Nick Newman’s Homecoming Comes With Fine Print

Back at the ranch, Nikki admits to Victor that stepping in to run Vibrante feels a little daunting, and he tells her he’s never doubted her strength for a second. That’s when Nick pops up to hug his parents, insisting he feels re-energized and ready to jump back into his life, kids and career included. Victor ducks out for a call, leaving Nick to tell Nikki he can sense she’s scared. She asks, gently, whether he’s really ready, pointing out that rehab’s structure can make the outside world feel deceptively easy to handle. He swears he’s prepared and thanks her for everything her support has meant.

The moment Victor returns, he tells his son he isn’t convinced Nick jumping straight back into the company is the right call yet, though he won’t stand in the way if Victoria Newman is on board. Nick’s visibly deflated by the lack of a full endorsement, even as his father makes clear he’s proud of him and mostly worried about what stress could do to his progress.

Nick’s next stop is the tack house, where Victoria has clearly missed her brother badly. He thanks her for staying away from the facility, saying he couldn’t stomach her seeing him like that. She asks if he’s really ready, he insists he is, and he asks for her blessing to ease back into work, since their father made it her call. She’s apprehensive but listens as Nick explains that drugs started as a coping mechanism until they swallowed him whole, and that rehab gave him real perspective, largely thanks to a fellow patient named Marie Kirkland, who was going through her own pain but still had the nerve to call out his hero complex. She’s the reason he finally understands he has to save himself instead of everyone else, and he genuinely hopes their paths cross again. Victoria agrees to bring him back slowly, he promises not to let her down, and they hug it out.

By the end of the day, Victoria swings by the ranch to report to her parents that her brother seems stable, though she can’t shake the worry that it’s still too soon. Nikki thinks the family’s job now is to support him and keep their doubts to themselves, Victor agrees a gradual return is the smart play, and Adam joins the conversation as the whole family quietly circles the same question: is Nick actually okay, or just good at convincing everyone he is?
