Everyone in Salem believes Sophia is dead. On May 1, Kristen made her toss her shoes in the water and leave her fingerprints on the railing, then struck her with a rock and had her thrown into the Salem River, dressing the whole thing up as a suicide. No body was ever recovered, and the town decided Sophia had taken her own life. Now the woman who knows that story is a lie has found the one person who can prove it.

Where Kristen Has Been Since August

Kristen DiMera has been gone since August 6, when she turned up in disguise to give her daughter, Rachel Black, a goodbye hug. Rachel’s father, Brady Black, recognized her. Kristen told him she was in danger from EJ DiMera and had to disappear, gave him a way to reach her only in an emergency, and refused to say where she was going.

In September, the head writers said Kristen would be back this fall and would not come back alone, and they never said who would be with her. My gut says the company they meant has been waiting tables in Kentucky. Keep an eye on Tuesday, too, when Brady worries about Rachel in the very week her mother resurfaces.

Is Sophia Choi Alive on Days of Our Lives?

According to the spoilers, yes, and that is Friday’s bombshell. Until the October 9 episode streams, though, Sophia is still presumed dead on screen. A river search that never turns up a body is how soaps leave a door open, and this one just swung wide.

Here is the wrinkle that makes Friday even messier. Sophia is the birth mother of Trey, the little boy Johnny DiMera and his wife, Chanel DiMera, adopted last November. She is also the young woman who tried to kill Johnny last spring, before Kristen DiMera turned on her. So the woman Kristen finds on Friday is a problem for more than one DiMera.

The Rest of Friday in Salem

Friday is busy well beyond that diner. Joy Wesley is unhappy with the discharge instructions Kayla Johnson gives her. Stephanie Johnson and her husband, Alex Kiriakis, steal a private moment after Alex pleasantly surprises her on Monday. That marriage could use it, since the custody agreement Alex signed keeps Stephanie away from Kelsey, the daughter he shares with Joy.

Belle Black turns to Chad DiMera for help, one day after her mother, Marlena Evans, makes a shocking confession to her on Thursday. If I know these writers, that request has Marlena’s confession written all over it.

Then there is Johnny, who brings Steve Johnson troubling news. One week earlier, on October 2, Johnny told Rafe Hernandez that EJ knew about a contaminated batch of Coriseal and tried to cover it up. Whatever Johnny tells Steve, he does it on the same day the woman who tried to kill him turns up alive.

Back in Salem, Holly Jonas has had Sophia on her mind for weeks. On September 30, Holly called after a woman on a bench in the square, thinking it was Sophia, and was aghast at her mistake when the stranger got up to leave. Holly has also never learned who sent her that anonymous text asking whether she was having fun.

The fan chatter has wondered for weeks whether Sophia is behind Holly’s mystery text, and nothing on screen says she is. But a Sophia who is alive and angry gives that guess fresh legs, and Kristen DiMera has more reason than anyone to hope it stays a guess.
