The Young and the Restless
Hankies, Screams, And Adam In The Delivery Room! Y&R’s Courtney Hope And Jason Thompson Spill On Billy And Sally’s Wedding Day
Courtney Hope and Jason Thompson look back on Billy and Sally’s Y&R wedding day, the surprise birth of baby Ruby, and what comes next.
COURTNEY HOPE AND JASON THOMPSON REVISIT BILLY AND SALLY’S WEDDING
TL;DR: Courtney Hope and Jason Thompson, who play Sally Spectra and Billy Abbott on Y&R, talked about the wedding day, Adam delivering baby Ruby, and what comes next on Michael Fairman’s podcast.

From One-Take Vows To A Dead Phone Line
Courtney Hope and Jason Thompson say the wedding of Sally Spectra and Billy Abbott was filmed in a single take, which is more than most families manage for one group photo. Hope wanted Sally’s gown edgy enough for a former carny and classy enough for an Abbott, even though the baby bump killed her low-back dream. Thompson played Billy as a man who could feel trouble coming and decided to enjoy the dance floor anyway, a big ask for someone who counts dancing among his least favorite things.
Trouble arrived as a three-way call about Jill Abbott’s heart attack. When Cane Ashby asked if Billy wanted to speak to his mother, Billy froze, and Thompson says Billy Flynn’s almost angry look at him in that moment is what made the scene land.

Adam Delivers Whether Billy Likes It Or Not
Upstairs, Sally’s labor was racing ahead and nothing was helping: Audra had taken her phone, Adam’s phone had died, and the suite line was dead too. That left Adam Newman, the one guest Billy had refused to shake hands with, to catch the baby. Thompson says his “head kind of blew off a little bit” when he heard Adam would be in the room, and then he fell for it. Between Billy and Adam’s history and the baby Adam and Sally lost, he calls it poetic, and he expects these three days to echo for 10 or 20 years.
Courtney Hope says she went full throttle. The labor was a zero-to-one-hundred sprint, her screams carried through the building, and she has been apologizing ever since. She credits Mark Grossman with keeping her in the moment. Both stars think it should pull Sally and Adam closer, while Thompson says Billy’s attitude is thanks, now keep your distance.
They also love that baby Ruby is a girl, and Thompson jokes that the Abbotts already have enough guys. He is dreading the scene, ten years from now, when Ruby takes her troubles to Adam instead of Billy.

A Happy Stretch, Then The Chancellor Elephant
With Cane flying out to be with Jill, Thompson says he and Billy will find each other more than ever, until circumstances change fast. Courtney Hope expects real happiness for the new family first, since Sally wants one so badly, but the Chancellor storyline is still the elephant in the room, and Sally hears Billy’s words differently than he means them.
Thompson also calls his scenes with Jess Walton the easiest of his job, and says the team is in touch with the semi-retired actress about bringing Jill back.
