Beyond the Gates Spoilers: Jacob and Naomi’s Promise Shatters as Jacob Hawthorne Doubts Smitty
Are Jacob and Naomi breaking up? They swore Smitty’s case would stay out of their home, then Jacob doubted him and old grudges spilled out.

TL;DR: Jacob and Naomi swore on October 13 that Smitty’s case would stay out of their home. On October 21 it walked right in, as Jacob Hawthorne doubted Smitty’s innocence and, by one account, took aim at her family. The marriage is cracked, not finished: nobody has said split, and Naomi offered therapy.
The Promise Jacob and Naomi Could Not Keep
Jacob and Naomi made one rule when this case landed on their doorstep. On Tuesday, October 13, the day Smitty Smith was charged and bailed, Jacob Hawthorne and his wife, Naomi Hamilton Hawthorne, swore that standing on opposite sides of his case would not disrupt their home life. Eight days later, the official line for Wednesday, October 21 said it plainly: Naomi and Jacob can’t keep their promises.
It started sweetly. They shared earbuds over a rom-com until Jacob admitted he could not stop thinking about the arrest. Naomi told him to go find proof that Smitty was framed. Jacob reminded her that she had told her own client to say nothing to police. By one recap’s account, he then said Smitty might not be totally innocent and could be guilty of manslaughter.
That is Jacob’s opinion, not the charge. Smitty is charged with drug-induced homicide and is out on bail, and Naomi’s plan is to prove the video of Smitty with Max is a deepfake. The Beyond the Gates spoilers for this week never promised this couple a quiet night.

Jacob Hawthorne Finally Says What Has Been Eating at Him
Then came the line that turned movie night into a marriage problem. In one recap’s telling, Jacob said her family keeps pulling strings behind the scenes to get out of legal trouble, that he has to constantly compromise, and that she always makes him stay quiet. Another recap of the same episode has the fight drifting into old sore spots, children and a health matter Naomi kept to herself, with Jacob saying he just needed to vent.
Naomi did not storm off. She admitted she had blind spots about her own marriage and offered therapy. Jacob told her they were fine now that it was off his chest, and they went back to the movie. Nobody fixes this with a rom-com.
Jacob never named an incident on screen. He does not have to. In March 2025, Jacob Hawthorne arrested his own mother-in-law, Dani Dupree, for attempted murder, and the charges went away when Bill Hamilton agreed to drop them. Naomi told her husband she would never forgive him, then made up with him the next day.
In September he arrested Hayley for poisoning Bill, and Bill agreed to get those charges dropped too, which left Jacob unable to understand why. When Jacob brought the handcuffs for Smitty on October 12, the family went to work again. Vernon Dupree leaned on Jacob’s father, Elon Hawthorne, to get Smitty released, and Elon refused.
Are Jacob and Naomi Breaking Up on Beyond the Gates?
No. As of October 21, nothing on screen and no official line has them separating, and nobody has suggested Jacob step off the case or Naomi drop Smitty as a client. What the show has done is hand Jacob the high ground. In March 2025, Naomi was the one swearing she would never forgive him. This time Jacob is the one naming the pattern, and Naomi is the one reaching for therapy.
Here is the part nobody is connecting. The last two times Jacob put handcuffs on someone in his wife’s family circle, Bill made the charges go away. Now the line for Friday, October 23 says Naomi encourages her dad to dig deeper. No preview says into what, and Kalista Kilroy, Dani’s first modeling agent, turns up at Thursday’s celebration first, so Bill’s past is the likeliest target. Still, the man Naomi is leaning on is the same man who undid her husband’s last two arrests.
What Jacob Hawthorne Does Next Decides the Marriage
Reading between the lines, that therapy offer is a hook, not a throwaway. Soaps rarely float counseling unless somebody ends up on the couch. Some viewers have already said Naomi is too close to this case to see it straight. My gut tells me the real test comes if Bill’s digging lands anywhere near Smitty, because then Jacob’s complaint stops being a feeling and starts looking like evidence.
And if Jacob finds something that clears Smitty? Don’t be surprised if that is the one outcome that saves them both. Naomi gets her client back, and Jacob proves he follows the evidence, not the family.
