Michelle Stafford is in for Phyllis Summers. Heather Tom is in for Katie Logan. Stacy Haiduk is in for Kristen DiMera, and it is the first time in her career she has been nominated in the Lead category. General Hospital, which won this exact trophy nine months ago, is not on the list at all.
The other two slots belong to Beyond the Gates. Karla Mosley is nominated for Dani Dupree, Tamara Tunie is nominated for Anita Dupree, and neither woman had ever been nominated at these awards before in her life. The show has been on the air for roughly sixteen months. Read that sentence one more time and let it settle.
One detail is doing quiet damage under all of this. Voters were working from calendar year 2025, which means everything these five were rewarded for is already a year in the rearview mirror. Some of the loudest, messiest performances on daytime right now, the ones fans are actually shouting about this week, were never even eligible. Beyond the Gates Took Two of Five in Its Very First Year
Here is the number that should be keeping the veterans awake. Beyond the Gates premiered on February 24, 2025, and in its first year of Daytime Emmy eligibility it walked off with two of the five Lead Actress slots. That is forty percent of the category, claimed by a show that did not exist two years ago. Mosley is no stranger to this world, having spent years as Maya on The Bold and the Beautiful. Tunie built two decades of goodwill as Jessica on As the World Turns before her long run on Law and Order SVU.
Tunie is the one I would not want to draw. Her cancer diagnosis storyline reached the family in late December 2025, sliding it inside the eligibility window by a matter of days. Voters have always rewarded that kind of work, and this room in particular has a soft spot for a matriarch holding her family together while the floor gives way. My gut tells me she is the one to beat.
Who Is Nominated for Lead Actress at the 2026 Daytime Emmys?
The five nominees are Stacy Haiduk, Karla Mosley, Michelle Stafford, Heather Tom and Tamara Tunie. Now here is the part almost everyone else is getting wrong today. Heather Tom’s third Lead Actress win did not happen in 2017, no matter how many places you see that printed. It happened in 2020, at the pandemic ceremony, and 2017 was a loss.
That correction is not trivia, it is the entire stake of her night. Tom owns six Daytime Emmy wins: Younger Actress in 1993 and 1999, Supporting in 2011, and Lead in 2012, 2013 and 2020. Six ties the all time record for an actress in this genre, a mark that has stood for two decades. A seventh on October 30 would leave her standing completely alone at the top of daytime.
General Hospital Went From a Sweep to a Shut Out
Nine months ago General Hospital walked out of the ceremony with seven awards, including this very category, where Nancy Lee Grahn took Lead Actress. On Monday night the show placed nobody. Not Laura Wright. Not Maura West. Not Cynthia Watros.
Reading between the lines, this looks less like a snub and more like a room that got restless. Voters had a shiny new show sitting in front of them and they reached for it with both hands. Whether that is fair is going to be the argument of the summer, and it is going to get loud.
Stacy Haiduk Has Been Here Before and Never Won a Thing
Four nominations. Zero wins. That is the ledger Haiduk carries into October, and it is starting to look less like bad luck and more like an oversight the industry keeps repeating. Her three previous nods all came in Supporting, twice for Days of Our Lives and once, back in 2017, for playing Patty in Genoa City.
This is her first time in the Lead race, which changes the math entirely. She is no longer the delicious side dish, she is a main course, and voters tend to notice when a performer finally gets moved to the grown up table. If I know this academy, they love a long overdue coronation almost as much as they love a newcomer.
Genoa City Did Not Walk Away Empty Handed
The Newmans still have skin in this game. Eric Braeden is nominated for Lead Actor for Victor Newman, and Christian Jules LeBlanc is nominated right beside him for playing Michael, his first nomination in a decade. Stafford, meanwhile, is defending territory rather than storming it. She won this Daytime Emmy category in 2024 and would love nothing more than to take it straight back.
And one more thing worth saying plainly, because it is getting badly muddled out there. Stacy Haiduk is nominated for her work on Days of Our Lives, not for The Young and the Restless. She is currently tearing a hole through Genoa City as Patty, but that story belongs to 2026 and this ballot closed on 2025. Do not be surprised if she is right back on this list next summer for it.

The Rookies Just Walked In and Took Over Daytime
So who actually wins this thing? Stafford has the recent hardware and the swagger that comes with it. Tom has history sitting one trophy away from her fingertips. Haiduk has four nominations, zero wins, and a room full of people who owe her an apology.
