SALEM SHATTERED: JOHN BLACK’S FINAL GOODBYE LEAVES EVERYONE IN TEARS

The end of an era hits Salem HARD

Get the tissues ready. No, seriously—go grab the whole box because what’s coming to Salem next week is going to absolutely destroy us. John Black is dying, and Marlena Evans will be right there holding his hand as Salem’s most beloved hero takes his final breath. I’m already crying just typing this!

But wait—there’s more. (There’s always more in Salem, isn’t there?)

MAJOR STORYLINE 1: John Black’s Heartbreaking Farewell

Monday, June 2nd is the day that changes everything. John Black—the man who survived being The Pawn, countless DiMera schemes, and literally came back from the dead more times than we can count—is finally leaving us for real. And this time? There’s no miraculous return coming.

Marlena stays by his side until the very end, and if that doesn’t shatter your heart into a million pieces, I don’t know what will. The rest of the week? Pure grief. Salem learns about John‘s death and everyone—EVERYONE—is devastated. Steve and Kayla reminisce about their past. Kristen opens up to Brady. Even Belle pushes EJ away because she can’t deal with anything except losing her dad.

This is hitting differently because we know actor Drake Hogestyn really passed away. The show is honoring him the only way they know how—by giving John Black the hero’s goodbye he deserves.

MAJOR STORYLINE 2: Bo Brady’s Miracle Moment (But With a Twist)

Here’s where things get complicated—and honestly? A little hopeful.

While John is leaving us, Bo Brady might be coming back! On Monday, Bo has this spiritual reunion with his late son Zack (played by Brandon Butler). Now, we’ve seen this before in soaps. Dead relatives showing up usually means one of two things: you’re dying OR you’re about to fight your way back to the living.

Hope, Shawn, and Ciara are gathered around his bedside, praying for a miracle. And guess what? By Wednesday, it looks like they might get one! Bo wakes up!

But—and there’s always a but—he’s suffering from memory loss. He feels distant from Salem. Distant from Hope. Can you imagine? After everything they’ve been through, he doesn’t remember? My heart can’t take much more!

MAJOR STORYLINE 3: Love in the Time of Tragedy

You know what takes serious guts? Planning your wedding while your dad is literally dying. But that’s exactly what Paul Narita and Andrew Donovan decide to do.

Wednesday, June 4th—right in the middle of all this heartbreak—these two lovebirds are moving forward with their wedding plans. And before you judge them, listen to this: they’re doing it to honor John. They know he’d want them to celebrate their love, not put their lives on hold.

I’m not crying, YOU’RE crying!

This is going to be the most bittersweet ceremony ever. Paul getting married without his dad there? But knowing John is watching from above? Pass the tissues again, please.

MAJOR STORYLINE 4: Family Drama Alert—Jennifer Is NOT Happy

Jack Deveraux and Jennifer Horton are coming home on Thursday, and let me tell you—Jennifer is FIRED UP. She’s already dealt with losing Doug at Thanksgiving, now she’s here to mourn John, but what really sets her off? Finding out about Chad and Cat‘s growing closeness.

Their date has Jennifer seeing red, and by Friday she’s confronting Jack about it. Can you blame her? She’s watching her daughter’s widower move on with someone new. That’s got to sting, even if Abigail has been gone for a while now.

This family tension is exactly what we’d expect when emotions are already running high. Mix grief with protective mama bear instincts and you’ve got a recipe for DRAMA.

MAJOR STORYLINE 5: The Manuscript Disaster

Just when you think the week can’t get more chaotic, Alex Kiriakis decides to share Stephanie Johnson‘s romance novel manuscript. WITHOUT. HER. CONSENT.

Are you kidding me right now, Alex?

Friday’s going to be a nightmare for Stephanie. Her personal writing—probably filled with steamy scenes and maybe some thinly veiled real-life inspirations—is being passed around Salem like hot gossip. The professional embarrassment alone would be bad enough, but what if there are personal details in there? What if people recognize themselves in her characters?

This betrayal could destroy not just her career but her personal relationships too. Classic Alex move—act first, think later.

SPECULATION & WHAT’S NEXT

With John gone and Bo potentially back but memory-impaired, Salem’s whole dynamic is shifting. Will Bo‘s memory loss be permanent? If he can’t remember his life with Hope, will she fight for their love or will this push them apart for good?

Paul and Andrew‘s wedding is going to be emotional overload. But here’s what I’m wondering—will they actually make it through the ceremony without some classic Salem interruption? Even in grief, this town can’t seem to let anyone get married in peace.

As for Jennifer versus Chad and Cat? This confrontation has been building, and with everyone’s emotions already raw from John‘s death, things could explode. Will Jack side with his wife or try to keep the peace?

And Stephanie‘s manuscript situation? If Alex thought this would somehow win her over or be funny, he’s about to learn a VERY hard lesson. The question is: what secrets might be revealed in those pages?

Salem’s about to enter a new era without John Black. The man who held so many storylines together, who was father, friend, and hero to so many—his absence is going to leave a void that can’t be filled. But if anyone can honor his legacy while moving forward, it’s the people of Salem.

One thing’s for sure—next week is going to leave us all emotionally wrecked. And that’s exactly what great soap opera should do.
