A Lie, A Baby, and a Mother With An Agenda
AlexAnn Hopkins confirmed in a new interview that she is back on the Peacock soap as Joy Wesley beginning with today’s episode, and she showed up in Salem carrying the secret that sent her running in the first place. Kelsey is a real little girl now. She is Alex Kiriakis‘s daughter. And she is home.
For the fans who watched Joy pack up the Brady Pub in March of 2025 and call her mother from the airport with a cryptic “Hey Mom, guess what?” the bait and switch is finally paying off. Joy did not simply move home to New York. She moved home and had a baby. And now she is back in Salem, ready to make it count.
Hopkins told the outlet that Joy is “much more womanly now” and has a real sense of purpose for the first time, which is an elegant way of saying she has matured into somebody with a very specific set of priorities and the patience to see them through. Hopkins also said, in that same interview, that “if there is one thing about Joy, she has an agenda.” Noted.

The Messy History Behind This Baby
Let us rewind. Joy Wesley is the daughter of Nancy Wesley and Dr. Craig Wesley, which longtime fans will remember because her entire existence is rooted in one of Days of Our Lives‘ most famous storylines. Nancy and Craig conceived Joy as a donor baby in 2003 to save their older daughter Chloe Lane, who was fighting leukemia. Joy was a bone marrow match. Joy saved Chloe. Joy has been carrying generational emotional baggage since she came into the world, and honestly, it shows.
The adult version of Joy arrived in Salem in October 2024 when Nancy brought her home to audition for the soap within a soap, Body & Soul. Joy got the part. Joy also got tangled up with every eligible man in her orbit. She nearly slept with Johnny DiMera before realizing he was married. She then concocted a fake affair with Alex Kiriakis that detonated into a very real one after a New Year’s Eve party.
The romance did not last. Alex admitted he still had unresolved feelings for Stephanie Johnson, broke things off with Joy, and reunited with Stephanie the first real chance he got. Shortly after the breakup, Joy realized she might be pregnant. Stephanie overheard Sarah Horton calling in the test and confronted Joy at Titan. Joy got her results back. Joy looked Alex and Stephanie in the face and lied. She said she was not pregnant. Then she quit her job at Titan, packed her bags, and left town, telling her mother from the airport that she had news.
That lie just walked in with a baby on her hip.
Stephanie Should Probably Sit Down for This
Robert Scott Wilson’s Alex and Abigail Klein’s Stephanie have been rebuilding for a year, and they finally seemed to be back on an even keel. The timing of Joy’s arrival is not an accident. Soap gods do not do accidents. Hopkins confirmed she is working with Susan Seaforth Hayes’s Julie Olson Williams and Suzanne Rogers’s Maggie Kiriakis this time around, which means Joy is not hiding out at the pub. She is being folded into the Horton and Kiriakis orbits.
Hopkins described her character as a “mama bear now” with the confidence to go after what she wants. What she wants, presumably, is a father for Kelsey. Whether that looks like weekend visitation or full domestic upheaval is the drama SOM signed up for. Either way, Stephanie’s marriage has never looked less bulletproof.
