Instead of respecting the answer he’d been given minutes earlier, Carter walked straight into the design office where Daphne was already glowing over a baby she thinks is coming from a total stranger, and calmly floated a very different idea. Why use someone they’ll never meet, he wondered aloud, when there’s someone right there they already trust completely with everything?

He never said Steffy Forrester’s name out loud in that room, but the target of his suggestion could not have been more obvious to him. In under an hour, Carter went from hearing a flat, furious no to quietly auditioning that exact same plan on the one person who has no idea what he’s actually asking of her closest friend.

The Secret That Grows With Every Passing Day

A few feet away, Ridge Forrester and Taylor Hayes sit with Daphne while she mourns how impersonal it feels to use a donor she’ll never meet, unaware that Steffy Forrester is a few rooms over, dodging texts from Carter and trying to hold herself together. Taylor senses something is wrong with her own daughter without knowing why, telling Ridge there’s a heaviness in Steffy that never lifted after Monaco.

None of them are looking anywhere close to the actual truth. Li Finnegan is busy telling Finn his marriage will finally get back to normal, blissfully unaware that normal broke the moment his own wife found out she was carrying another man’s baby, and the story everyone believes is going to unravel eventually whether anyone in that building is ready or not.

Steffy’s Real Power Was Never Carter’s To Use

Carter’s entire plan only works if Steffy Forrester agrees to disappear from her own child’s life on paper, and she said no because she understands something he’s choosing to ignore entirely. Honesty might cost her a marriage. It costs her nothing she hasn’t already survived once before, while Carter’s plan costs her the baby itself, permanently and without a single word of protest allowed.

If Steffy walks into that hospital and tells Finn the truth, she loses the comfortable lie she’s been living in, not necessarily her entire family. Finn has forgiven her before, straight through Sheila’s stunt in Monaco and everything that came after it, and a man who keeps promising unconditional loyalty out loud tends to eventually get taken up on it.

Only One Person Gets To Make This Call

Carter can pitch her to Daphne all he wants, but this secret was never his to trade away on his own. It belongs to her body, her baby, and two marriages hanging in the balance right now, and until Steffy decides whether to confess or comply, every plan Carter draws up is him talking to himself, alone.
