Phyllis fired Michael because Michael told her the truth. The case is unwinnable. Take a plea. Cave to Victor. Phyllis does not take advice she does not like, so Phyllis walked away.

Lauren forced Michael back to the table. Michael agreed to represent Phyllis out of love for Lauren, not faith in Phyllis. Victor Newman threw him out of the ranch and warned him there is no coming back. Christine has to decide whether to walk back the case or stand on principle. Victor has to decide whether to escalate or retreat. And Phyllis finally has the one weapon Victor did not see coming.
