The Young and the Restless
Y&R BOMBSHELL! Phyllis Summers Is One Phone Call Away From Bringing Her Estranged Sister Avery Bailey Clark Home
Phyllis Summers fired Michael Baldwin on The Young and the Restless and needs a fighter. The unhinged theory: she calls her sister Avery.

AVERY BAILEY CLARK IS THE ONE LAWYER VICTOR CANNOT BUY
TL;DR: Phyllis fired Michael earlier this month on The Young and the Restless and Lauren forced him back to the table. The unhinged theory: it is not enough. Phyllis needs a fighter Victor cannot buy and Christine cannot intimidate. The one attorney in the legal world who fits the description is Phyllis’s estranged sister. Avery Bailey Clark has not been in Genoa City since 2015 and she is about to come home.
Phyllis Needs a Fighter and Michael Is Not That Lawyer
Phyllis Summers fired Michael Baldwin earlier this month on The Young and the Restless, then watched her sister-in-law browbeat him into representing her anyway.
It is not enough. Phyllis does not believe Michael is fully on her side. Phyllis does not believe anyone in Genoa City is fully on her side. Victor has bought off every decent attorney in town on retainer. Christine is the District Attorney now and has personal reasons to want her in a cell. The walls are closing.
The unhinged theory: Phyllis is going to pick up the phone and call the one attorney Victor cannot buy and Christine cannot intimidate. Her own estranged sister. Avery Bailey Clark.
Avery has not been in Genoa City since 2015. Avery does not need Victor’s money, because Avery built her career on the Innocence Project defending people the system wronged. Avery is the only person in the legal world who would walk into the Phyllis storyline with the muscle, the motive, and the family obligation to fight Victor and win.
Phyllis is about to make the most painful phone call of her life. And Avery is about to come home.

Why Michael Is the Lawyer Phyllis Cannot Trust
Phyllis fired Michael because Michael told her the truth. The case is unwinnable. Take a plea. Cave to Victor. Phyllis does not take advice she does not like, so Phyllis walked away.
Lauren forced Michael back to the table. Michael agreed to represent Phyllis out of love for Lauren, not faith in Phyllis. Victor Newman threw him out of the ranch and warned him there is no coming back. The relationship between Michael and Victor is now broken, and Phyllis is the woman in the middle of the wreckage.
Phyllis knows it. Phyllis sees Michael every day and reads his face. Michael does not believe she can win this. That is not the lawyer Phyllis needs. Phyllis needs a fighter, and the fighter Phyllis needs has her last name.
The Phone Call Phyllis Has Been Avoiding for Ten Years
The Summers family history is the unhinged part of the theory. Phyllis turned in their con-artist father George years ago, fled the family, and left Avery behind. The sisters spent decades estranged. When Avery Bailey Clark finally came to Genoa City in 2011, the reunion was bitter. They mended things slowly. They sat with their dying father together. They left things in a place that was not friendship but was no longer war.
That is the foundation Phyllis is about to call. The unhinged theory says Phyllis sends a one-line text. I am being railroaded. I need you. And Avery Bailey Clark, who has built her entire career around the people the system has decided are guilty before the trial, gets on the next plane.
Avery’s Return Rewrites the Entire Phyllis Storyline
Avery’s return rewrites every storyline currently in motion. Avery was Victor’s personal attorney once. Avery knows how Victor builds a case and knows exactly how to dismantle it. Avery has a public reputation for defending the wrongly accused, which means the headlines flip the moment she steps into the courtroom. Christine has to actually prove the emails were faked, not simply produce them.
Then there is Nicholas Newman. Nick and Avery were engaged once. Nick and Phyllis have been the on-again off-again of Genoa City for two decades. Avery walks back into town representing her sister, and the Nick triangle of every Phyllis fan’s nightmare reignites in week one. Phyllis is asking her sister for help. Nick is going to have to look at the woman he almost married, defending the woman he eventually did marry, at the worst possible moment for everyone involved.
That is not a complication. That is a soap.
The Innocence Project Comes for Victor Newman
Here is what Avery walks in with. She walks in with the Innocence Project credentials that make her a media darling. She walks in with a personal grudge against Victor for using her sister as a pawn. She walks in with the family history that makes her the only attorney Phyllis cannot fire.
She walks in and she does what Avery does. She investigates. She finds the technician Victor paid to fabricate the emails. She finds the receipts on the AI manipulation. She finds the testimony from the former department heads is paid testimony, not voluntary. She turns the case from a Phyllis prosecution into a Victor investigation.
Christine has to decide whether to walk back the case or stand on principle. Victor has to decide whether to escalate or retreat. And Phyllis finally has the one weapon Victor did not see coming.
Bring popcorn. The estranged sister storyline has been sitting in the drawer for ten years and Phyllis is about to open it. Avery Bailey Clark is coming home, and Victor is about to find out what happens when a Summers sister goes to war on her own family’s behalf.
