That is the energy we are working with. She suspected the food was drugged. She saw straight through the fake doctor routine. Then she did the thing the show clearly wants us to clock: she picked the lock on his desk drawer, palmed his cellphone, and tucked it away before he came back in the room.

A phone in the hands of the savviest schemer in Genoa City is not a small detail. We are not the least bit worried about Diane. We are worried for anyone standing between her and that locked front door.

Here is the part that makes us cackle. While Diane Jenkins quietly arms herself, the men who love her are coming completely undone. Jack Abbott has agreed to fake a whole romance with the woman who once put two bullets in him, welcomed her into the mansion, and shooed his entire family out the door to sell the act. He is gritting his teeth through every skin-crawling minute of it.

Kyle Abbott is out pounding the pavement for leads, convinced his mother is helpless somewhere, frightened and waiting to be found. Bless these two. They are running a frantic, high-wire rescue mission for a woman who may have already handled it herself.

We predict the delicious irony of this whole arc is that all of Jack’s groveling and all of Kyle’s legwork ends in a rescue that shows up after the prisoner has strolled out on her own. The Abbott men are playing checkers. Diane is three moves into a chess game with a stolen phone.

Why Diane Wins This One Alone

Look at who is actually holding the cards. Patty Williams built her entire scheme on the belief that Diane is broken, sedated, and stashed safely out of view. Every ounce of leverage she has over Jack depends on Diane staying a still photo on a phone screen. The instant Diane makes a move, that leverage turns to dust.

The man assigned to guard her, Laurence Markham, has already been played once. Diane sweet-talked him into letting her stay in his home rather than ship her off to a clinic, which bought her time, comfort, and access. She is not fighting the cage. She is studying it, charming her jailer, and quietly mapping every exit. That is a far scarier prisoner than one rattling the door and screaming.

Our bet is that Diane Jenkins uses that phone, that access, and that legendary survival instinct to crack the whole operation wide open from the inside. Maybe she reaches the right person. Maybe she quietly collects proof of exactly what Patty has pulled. Maybe she simply lets herself out and saunters back into the mansion to find Patty draped across her sofa. Imagine that reunion.

The woman faked her own death once and came back swinging. A locked door and a pretend psychiatrist barely qualify as a warmup for a résumé like hers.
