This is the captivity nightmare nobody saw coming. Diane Jenkins came to inside an unfamiliar house, the shelves lined with books by an “Alan Laurent,” the doors bolted, and a so-called psychiatrist named Laurence insisting he had to “assess” her before sending her to a clinic.

He claimed he found her screaming on a country road. He threatened vague “methods” to make her eat. He lied that her own husband had asked him to treat her. Diane knew every word was garbage, and she did not just sit there and take it.

In a quietly thrilling turn, Diane picked the lock on a desk drawer, lifted a cellphone, and pocketed it before her captor walked back in, then sweet-talked him into letting her stay so she could buy more time. Susan Walters played terror and cunning in the same breath, and we are riveted.
