Nick Newman Is a One Man Safety Hazard

Nick Newman is in a Vegas casino drinking, gambling, and riding a winning streak like a man who is absolutely not on prescription painkillers he told everyone he stopped taking. Noah Newman calls from Genoa City and Nick tells his son to stay safe. Then he hangs up, sits back down at the table, says “let’s dance” to the dealer, starts losing, and nearly falls out of his chair trying to stand up.

Stay safe, son. Daddy is on the floor of a casino.

Adam Newman sees his brother later and can tell something is very wrong. Nick blames it on drinks and circulated air, which is the kind of excuse a man gives when he knows the truth is worse and he is not ready to say it out loud. Adam is not buying it. Noah could hear it over the phone. Sharon Newman told us weeks ago she was glad Nick was off the pain medication and would hate to see him back on it. Nick Newman is back on it. He is hiding it from everyone. And he is unraveling in a city that was specifically designed to make bad decisions worse.

Riza Thompson Pulls a Gun on Adam Newman

Adam opens his hotel room door and Riza Thompson greets him with a gun in his face. She searches him for a wire, reminds him she knew him when he was Spider, and tells him he was her greatest protégé. He pitches her on getting back in the game. She is not convinced. She asks if he is still with Sharon, and he tells her about Chelsea Lawson and his son. Riza is disappointed. She says she needs to think it over, and then pulls him into a kiss before walking out.

Adam cannot tell if she trusts him, wants him, or is testing him. Possibly all three. Welcome back to Vegas.

Tessa Porter Asks Mariah Copeland the Only Question That Matters

Mariah Copeland meets Tessa Porter at the park café ready to end things. She has her speech prepared. There is nothing left. It is over. She is going to prison. Staying connected is not good for either of them.

Tessa is not having it. She tells Mariah she is taking the easy way out. She reminds her she could go to the hospital and get well instead of choosing a cell. Mariah says her life is over. Tessa says she still loves them. She can feel it. Mariah gets up to run but stops. Tessa asks her one question: is she willing to give them another try or not?

That is where we leave it. The woman is literally standing between the door and her family and we do not know which way she turns. Daytime television, you beautiful monster.

Daniel Romalotti Turns Down Barcelona to Stay and Suffer

Daniel Romalotti shows up at the GCAC and tells Danny Romalotti and Christine Blair that all good things for him come to an end. He told Tessa to go back to her wife. He knows what Tessa feels for him is real but he can tell she has something bigger with Mariah.

Danny offers him a trip to Barcelona. Sun. Music. Distance from the woman he just gave up. Daniel says no. He wants to stay and be a friend to Tessa, no matter how hard that is. Danny tells him sticking around will be hell. Daniel does not care. This man chose heartbreak on purpose and is committed to sitting in it. That is either deeply admirable or deeply unhinged and honestly it might be both.
